When one talks about the greats in movie music composing the name Danny Elfman invariably comes up. His collaborations with Sam Raimi, Gus Van Sant and the creation of The Simpsons' unmistakable theme song have made his name synonymous with great works.

Though it's his collaborations with visionary director Tim Burton that has brought him his most acclaim. From his starring role in The Nightmare Before Christmas to his Oscar nominated score for Big Fish their names have been eternally linked together.

Nice interview!!

I rather liked The Corpse Bride, but I thought the songs were forgettable. Still, Elfman has done a bunch of good work. Thanks!!

Wow, tell us how you really feel, Danny. No sugar coating. tongue

And what a travesty about Nightmare Before Christmas, the lack of support. Look at all the merchandising for it after the fact...

Great job, DRE!

Wow, he really opened up more than I'm used to reading in a celeb/artist interview. Great insights there, DRE.

The greatest night of music I ever saw was Oingo Boingo and Squeeze at the Warfield in San Francisco in 1982 or so

Wow, I had no idea that movies license musical cues. Maybe your best interview here, DRE.

Danny Elfman loves Tritones!!

I always love reading Elfman interviews - the guy doesn't mince words. And yes, definitely one of your better, Dre Dogg.

I hate to sound like such a sap, but he's my personal hero (my tattoo is even modeled after one of his). I saw Boingo in Detroit in the fall of 94 and it was beyond spectacular. I even got to talk to John Avila outside and with his autograph, he wrote "thanks for fish!" ha. Still kicking myself for not talking to Vatos when I had the chance.

Anyway, fantastic interview - seeing him say anything about his fallout with Burton is pretty fascinating. It breaks my heart a little to know how strongly he feels about never playing live again, especially since his reasoning is rock-solid.

ps - if anyone who likes him hasn't seen Forbidden Zone (his brother's film and his first score) you owe it to yourself to seek it out!

I like the way he was very frank about his opinions and his feelings about people instead of trying to be media-friendly. Kudos.

He is the reason I ever picked up a musical instrument, and as much fun as I've had, I owe the man! Saw Oingo 2 times: Chicago 93 and in SLC on the Farewell tour 10 years ago TODAY! If anyone wants to get into Boingo, please get Good For Your Soul first and avoid anything after 85 until you have the early stuff. Cause it ain't that good in comparison.

Danny's always been a real straight forward cat. He's cool peops. And the Warfield is the greatest place ever to see a good band. Don't know what it is about that place, but everybody plays just a little bit better there. Great interview, as always, DRE.

My Lord, I am so, so jubilant to see an interview with Danny Elfman. I've been an Oingo Boingo fan for years and catching his name out of the corner of my eye was a true boon. Much obliged, SG.
