I'm lost
January 2005

OCT 07, 2005 06:06 PM

Okay, the g/f is out of town for the weekend. She says when she gets back, she wants to snuggle on the couch and have a horror movie marathon. The only thing is, though I consider myself somewhat of a film buff, I'm a horror movie retard. So, I want to know what are some great, really scary horror films. New, old, b-movie, teen flick.... whatever.

Come on, help a guy out...

I agree with Aegir. Italians do em the best.

Suspiria
The Beyond
Deep Red
Inferno
Dellemorte Dellamore

Some good Asian flicks
Ringu
Ju-On
The Eye
Battle Royale (not really horror but good flick)
Audition

Also, some grest cheese.
Night Of The Demons
Chopping Mall
any from the slasher sub genre is great. If it 's not somewhat scary it will make you laugh.

Dellamorte Dellamore aka Cemetary Man is a good movie to watch with the GF.

It's plenty gory, italian style, complete with chattering dead boy scout zombies.

but also has a sweet little love story and a freaky twist ending.

I'm going to go gainst the grain and tell you if you ahven't seen the original Dawn of the Dead, don't waste your time. Most people who liek it do so out of nostalgia having seen it when they were younger, It does not age well at all and you'll be bored silly half way through.

The new Dawn has good replay value and is fun with some good jump scares.

If you want awful unwatchable cheesiness, get House of 1000 Corpses.

and if you want slasher movie silliness thats watchable and ironic, get Jason X.

While it would seem you're going for the serious, scary fare, I'd have to suggest Army of Darkness and Shaun of the Dead.

Because death can be funny. biggrin

Army of Darkness is fun, although it's a real stretch to call it a horror movie I think, Fantasy/Comedy seems to fit it better. Still a good pick though.

Myself, I own Lucio Fulci's Zombie as well as Blood Feast and have yet to watch them. Has anyone else seen them? Reviews?

Aw, fuck. Just throw Pink Flamingos in there. It's just horror of a different kind. biggrin

I will very much agree with The Audition

Also, The Hills Have Eyes is really good

The first forty five minutes of Jeepers Creepers is really great. Then it sucks.

I love H.G. Lewis, but his movies are pretty silly. Blood Feast is fun, so is Two Thousand Maniacs (TEETERIN' ROCK!)

Fulci's Zombi is a classic, gotta love those bootleg Night of the Living Dead knock-offs. Blood Feast is also a classic, along with the Gore-Gore Girls and (perhaps best of all) 2000 Maniacs.

Find a copy of the documentary Mau Mau Sex Sex. Lewis has a garage/museum dedicated to his films. And he still runs carnivals! Silly?, yes. But still friggin' awesome.

My personal faves include The Exorcist, 28 Days Later, oh what else...Silence of the Lambs? Well, no, that's more of a "thriller"...

I pretty much enjoy anything zombie-related. I still have to read my copy of The Zombie Survival Handbook.

For those of you reading @home, yes, I own a lot of books and DVDs that I have not read or watched. I really need to learn how to use my free time better.
