What total pieces of shit. Fuckfaces like these give good honest people a bad name. How the fuck can they sleep at night, knowing they joined a charatible organization under the pretense of helping other AMERICANS, just to totally assfuck them and make some money for themselves? mad

As George Carlin would've said:
"Fuck 'em, Fuck 'em."

I wouldn't go so far to say evil, but yeah I would say we're all basically fighting our most selfish and crude desires deep down. It's just a matter of how you go about it and how it makes you behave. What is your perception of these people? That they're unfit for society, psychopathic monsters? Or that they're just regular people who took a risk/chance to get some money. I think it's the latter, but that's just me.

I agree. Every one of us has the potential to do "evil". The only thing that separates us from the people who take advantage of situations like this is your personal situation. Maybe the people who committed these crimes were hard up for cash and saw no other alternative than stealing from those who needed the money far more desperately than they did? I'm not justifying it by any means. But what I am saying is that, when put into certain situations, we would all do what we considered to be in our best interests.

Maybe it wouldn't be something as drastic as this, maybe it would. It depends on how far you were willing to bend your morals.

Once again, I'm not justifying what they did. I think they're dumbasses who made a really bad choice.

And whaqt those of us capable of higher rational thought are saying is that people who fuck over the defenseless and tragedy stricken are scumbags.

This isn't a situational ethics hypo where you have to decide whther to rob the pharmacy to get medicine for your dying child. This is robbing the dying child of medicine. If youre willing to do that, your morals aren't bent, they're absent.

I like how you flame me for having a different opinion than you. Way to be an idiot. I agreed that they are scumbags, and I agree that heavy punishment should be imposed on them. I also think that this whole thing is being blown way out of proportion. What about the people who do the exact same thing in foreign countries? Why don't you ever hear about that? Why isn't the outrage so outright and in the open as it is with this specific situation? Is it so much more important now that something like this has happened to America? I don't think so. If you do, perhaps you should exclude yourself from that category of "capable of higher rational thought". wink

Haha, you must be new. And as far as not hearing about shit like this going on in other countries, try reading a non-US based news site.

That's not what he said at all. He used the general term "people." He never said "American" once. If one exploits a situation like this for his personal gain to the detriment of those in need, he is an asshole, be he American, German, British, Indonesian, Somalian, Martian, etc.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but I flamed you because your opinion was ill-conceived and puerile. We all have the same right to hold an opinion, but really, some opinions are worthless.

Way to be an idiot. I agreed that they are scumbags, and I agree that heavy punishment should be imposed on them. I also think that this whole thing is being blown way out of proportion.

Your neighbors aren't fucking depending on that money to live. Mine are, and unlike most political arguments which are overwrought and turgid, "to live" here is not hyperbolic, its literal. One of the Red Cross' primary food distribution centers is four blocks from my house. The cars are lined up 40 deep at times. Nice cars. Cars of people who until six weeks ago had good middle class jobs who are now reduced to waiting in line for handouts so they don't fucking starve to death. Thats who these fucks were stealing from along with people far worse off who have to have their food delivered by US Marshals because they have no cars at all. How much more reprehensible than stealing food from the starving do we have to get before its not "overblown"?

What about the people who do the exact same thing in foreign countries? Why don't you ever hear about that?

Why don't you pick up a newspaper and learn to read for content. If you do, you'll hear all about it.

This is a non argument. That bad things happen elsewhere does not mitigate or excuse bad things here, and incidentally, one of us used to coordinate international aid in the developing world for a living and its not you, so spare me the sanctimony.

Why isn't the outrage so outright and in the open as it is with this specific situation? Is it so much more important now that something like this has happened to America? I don't think so. Like I said, you go to Kalimantan and develop sustainable agriculture programs for USAID for a few years and you get to lecture me, not before.

You're not even starting to get flamed, by the standards of this board. BTW, complaining of getting flamed and responding by calling them an idiot is hilarious.

Pot, kettle, black.

Moving on, you don't hear about this as much in, say, the third world because this is the biggest natural disaster in the US's modern history. As such, incidents like this are going to make headlines and spark serious outrage, just as they damn well should.
