Whenever I think of Peter Jackson, all I can think about is Dead Alive!. Which was so hilarious / Crappily intense that I am filled with glee. I think it still holds the #1 spot for most fake blood used in a movie.

generally: yes. sometimes it's a nominal writing credit, sometimes they're actually involved. producers are backers rather than moviemakers.
So in conclusion, you've never been anywhere near a real set, have you.

he's personally announced this at X05 in amsterdam. that isn't to say he's not working on lovely bones, but he's certainly going to be heavily involved with the halo film.
via 1up.com:
"As a gaming fan, I'm excited to bring Halo's premise, action and settings to the screen with all the specificity and reality today's technology can provide," said Jackson. "Fran and I are intrigued by the unique challenges this project offers, and we're delighted to be working again with our friends at Universal, and with our new ones at Fox and Microsoft. I'm a huge fan of the game and look forward to helping it come alive on the cinema screen."

I don't understand why people think PJ is so great. Honestly, with LOTR he had a really solid story to work from, but despite that (or perhaps because of it) every little original piece that he added to the picture sucked.
WETA is what made the LOTR movies good, not PJ.
I completely agree with you about LOTR.
But people also love Peter Jackson because of Bad taste, Meet the feebles and Braindead - all funny and playful.
The Halo movie might be more like those movies. There is no great story to ruin with this one.
