I think their business practices, from the way they treat their employees and vendors, to the effect they have on the communities where they have stores is pretty lame. And I don't particularly like going into them, for other reasons. Mostly I just don't like the way they feel. And they sell a lot of crap. But on the whole I don't really care. If people didn't shop there, they wouldn't exist. So if that's what people want, good for them.

Evil. Pure evil. My sister used to work for them. They made many of their employes part time (barely) so that they did not have to provide them with health insurance. They cut my sister back to part time when they found out she was pregnant. Yeah... sucks... big time. What a time to be without insurance. I hate you Walmart.

They treat their employees like crap, and they donate millions to the Republican party.

I kno it's evil but I love it anyways. It's a fun place to go when you're fucked up in the middle of the night. I don't work there so whatever. It's so fucking cheap which works for me. It's like an long event whenever you go though so you have to be prepared.

Their product buying practices are gross, and they purposely undersell at times (i.e. with books/music/other such items) to drive smaller businesses out of the communities in which Wal*Mart is located. Along with their horrific labor practices and complete resistance to unionization.

I don't shop at K-mart, either, because Sears, their parent corporation, gives tons of money to the Republicans every election cycle. As for the other major mass retail outlet, Target, they seem to do no wrong.

I don’t think Wal-Mart is evil, though perhaps the people who run it are. Wal-Mart is more of a symptom than a disease. Wal-Mart only acts the way it does because the legal structures that create and regulate markets have dictated that Wal-Mart’s behavior is the most profitable.

i hear alot of people say they treat thier employees bad, but i got a friend who's only been there for 6 months and he makes around $10 an hour doing the same job that Best Buy paid me $7 for.
Best Buy is doing the same shit that wal-mart does(destroying small businesses, treating employees like shit) but wal-mart gets most of the blame. so... Fuck'em both. lets all shop at Target!!

I don't shop their myself but I don't blame people too much for being thrifty..
Espically the lower classes you'd probable shop at wall mart if it mean the difference between havieng internet acess and not....allthough half the crap you buy their breaks anyway

I agree it's buisness practices should be illegal but it's not unamerican for big buniess to bribe government

well, WalMart is convenient for people who like low-quality generic goods in a variety of departments. their furniture is passable, their electronics are pedestrian at best, and their music section is laughable by all standards.

basically, if you're looking for a specific item, it would be best to go to a store that specializes in such a thing. (i.e. buy games at a gamestop, not walmart) but if you're someone who doesn't have time for that sort of thing, or if you are someone who doesn't live near too many good specialty stores, then you don't really have much of a choice in the matter.

i've noticed that when WalMarts open right next to Albertsons or Walgreens, the other stores around them immediately lose business. I'm not a big fan of big box business, as I can see its consequences directly. But this IS capitalism, and as much as it sucks, competition is the reason for our high quality of life.

I don't like Wal-Mart really, but I can see the convenience for some. I do not approve of the shady business practices they have undertaken lately though. However, people who work at WalMarts are easily replaceable, unlike skilled laborers, so, like fast-food workers and other expendable jobs, they are not really in a bargaining position for better conditions.

Sucky, no?

I stopped shopping at wal-mart a couple months ago. Even tho I dont make a lot of money I would rather pay a little more to support local business then give my money to one of the most heartless corperations in the world. I only go in there now to knock stuff over and cause havoc.

They've put a roof over my head for five years.

Can't really complain.

I don't think they're worse than any other big box retailer.

I fucking hate them.

I got chased out of a Walmart by a greeter in a wheelchair for shoplifting. This wouldn't have been such a big deal but I was ENTERING the store when she started yelling. I hadn't gone inside. I was nowhere near any merchandise but somehow this batshit lady got it into her head that I had mysteriously teleported something into my pockets.

So in short... Fuck Walmart.

My thoughts exactly. If we had universal health care like Canada and living wage laws that didn't allow anyone to pay poverty-level wages to their employees then Wal-Mart would be just another place to buy bad clothes and off-brand electronics. Wal-Mart isn't the problem, it's just a manifestation of the problem.

The first time I ever did LSD I went to Walmart and sat on a gigantic bouncy ball scanning the Slim Shady LP to see like a 10 second clip of a video. Then I walked around with the ball giggling uncontrolably. After I left Walmart everything got scary though. surreal
