I've been seeing this all over the place.

I got curious and started researching it, but I haven't been able to find anything good...just a lot of people saying "sXe is a man's sport" and not backing it up.

Does anyone know what the justification is? I'm so confused.

I don't even know why anyone would want to be sXe in the first place...

I believe the justification is that men are retarded while women are just insane.

I've never heard this.

I don't see why being straight edge would be a guy thing.

Hmm. I'm curious now, too.

Cause us guys are fucking stoopid and when something gets competetive we seem to take it too fucking seriously...I don't understand the idea of being straight edge in the first place...Whats the point? What the fuck does it acomplish besides building up massive amounts of agression, that a good spliff could take care of in five minutes, and going to a shitty "hardcore" show and beating the shit out of the first person who gets in your way?

No.

The only edge people I know are underage, anyway.

I odn't even know why straight-edgness matters at all, so why it would be gender-specific is just one more degree of confusion for me on the subject.

Is there a movement where people do nothing but drugs, booze and casual sex ? Cause I'd be all for getting a 'Y' tattooed on my arm. If thats all it takes to show my support for a movement that would make infinitely better music ?

Yeah, we could call it the nonsense brigade.. it'd be great, we could go out to gigs and clubs and if we found anyone who wasn't off their crust we'd...be quite nice to them..ask them if they'd like a cup of tea...

Straight Edge is not an internet phenomenon. It does not exist so that you can have something cool to call yourself by. Straight Edge did not distance itself from hardcore. Straight Edge does not exist seperately from any musical scene. Straight Edge is hardcore. It is about the music. It is about the fellowship and it is about being drug free. Don't fool yourself into thinking differently. You're not straight edge if you have no idea how it feels to be in a pit, arm outstretched, fingerpointing, and singing along with a straight edge anthem. I honestly can't imagine having no clue how amazing that feels. To feel connected to the scene, the music the people. "to be a part of something real". If you've never felt it, then you have no idea. It's like knowing the theory but not the practice. Straight edge is an active thing.

Maybe the 'feeling' is dependent on a mix of chemicals unlikely to be found in young women.

Don't feel bad, prostate cancer is a man's sport too.

Hmmm. Maybe it's because it would be impossible for them to keep their vows of "no promiscuous sex" if women got anywhere near them...

I really don't know.

This just makes you sound like a fucking moron. People always ask if I'm "straight edge" or what not, since I pretty much fit the bill, although I'm not involved in some shitty ass stupid scene. I don't drink, smoke, do any drugs at all, no caffiene (Oh, how I miss you caffiene...fuck you kidney stones, fuck you.), all due to personal choices. I don't have this agression you speak of at all. I don't do the sexin's because I'm woefully single and see no point in chasing random ass. Seriously, it's stupid. All of it is stupid, and I don't see a point in any of it, so I don't do it.

Either way, you're way off your mark in that regard.

That being said, those sXe kids are a fucking retarded. And they listen to shitty music. I quit wanting to beat folks up at shows when I was oh, say...FIFTEEN. Fucking idiots. So the thing about women not being able to be sXe is lost on me, totally. Midol maybe? Birth control? It's an idiotic statement.

You know... The original straightedge ideals as put out there by Ian were pretty straight-forward and self-explanatory. WHY do ignorant, self-righteous idiots start adding their own rules to it and proclaiming it as FACT that you can't be straightedge unless you follow them?? Way to ruin a good thing and give straightedge people a bad name.

You have people saying you can't drink a cup of coffee, can't take a Tylenol if you have a bad headache, can't eat meat of any sort, etc. Sorry. Wrong. You're wrong. My opinion is that some of these new rules and thoughts are more poisonous and damaging than the actual poisons they're supposed to be keeping out of their lives.

I became straightedge back in 1995 and, while I no longer am, I have heavy respect for it and believe it's easily one of the most wise choices you can make... unless you don't do it for yourself and don't simply see it as an intelligent lifestyle choice for a single person. When you start becoming a "sXe FOR LIFE!!! STAY TRU CREW REPRESENT!" type of idiot, just please stop calling yourself straightedge and call it something else because you're a completely ignorant retard and give something great a bad name.
