Oh, the power of marketing.

In London, vodka company Absolut opened the Absolut Icebar- a bar made entirely out of ice. The walls, art, shelving, even the glasses are made of ice.

For a cover charge of 12 pounds ($22.20), patrons are given a thermal cape, thick gloves and a glass made out of ice before entering the second of two airtight doors designed to keep heat out.

Absolut is partnering with the Sweden-based Icehotel, the same company that brought you- yes, you guessed it, an hotel made entirely of ice, in 1994. As far as Icebar is concerned, the more temperate climes of England don't faze them- "The entire venue will be redesigned and rebuilt every six months, because the ice will gradually melt with daily use and the body heat of the crowds."

Even I have to admit, the thought of hanging out in a bar that will eventually be melted is pretty cool. Now if they could only melt down that cover charge.

Yeah. I'm kind of hoping this will bring capes back into fashion.

No, that would be a deposit. I'm pretty sure 'cover charge' is just the American way of saying entry fee or whatever. We say it costs £10 to go into a club, they say there's a $15 cover charge.

id hate to see the cost of the drinks ontop of the £12 'cover charge' (which i agree with G1, it usualy means you get your money back)
the drinks would be priced pretty steeply to cover the cost of all the ice, the staff, the refigeration units needed to keep the ice frozen, recoup the costs of building it all etc. etc. i think ill give it a miss until they launch a price list and i can see if its affordable
