CULTURE: All That Glitters Is Not Demerol

In the latest story in the 'what the fuck?' section of the news, an undercover cop went to the hospital for a shot of Demerol- but was instead injected with glitter.

The shot was necessary because he had sinus surgery in October 2000.

...he had a four-inch by four-inch mass near the injection site. It took another surgery to remove it. An analysis determined there was "green and red sparkling material" around the mass. In other words, glitter.

...

He continues to have health problems. He walks with a limp and has been hospitalized 12 more times. He's now suing Florida Hospital.

Attorneys for the hospital said in court Monday that no one knows exactly what was in the deputy's leg or how it ended up there. They suggested it might even be contaminated medicine, so the hospital should not be blamed.

Channel 9 wanted to ask Florida Hospital about any sort of investigation they've done into this situation, but their attorneys didn't want to comment and their press office did not return a call.

Remember, kids- the next time you go to get a shot, make sure the contents of the syringe don't sparkle.

Very fine stuff apparently.

Also, it doesn't look like the cop was undercover for purposes related to the hospital or the drugs. He was getting the drugs as part of continuing therapy for some past surgery, just like anybody else would do.

you know, there is more than one size needle that fits on a syringe.....and there are different size chunks of glitter, as well.

what gets me, is how the FUCK could ANYONE that works in a hospital and is authorized to administer medicine to a patient mix up demerol with glitter? ummm....HELLOOOOO!?!? the shiny, sparkly, multi-colored textured stuff is kind of a dead giveaway, doc!

Wow that's a pretty strong case there. The hospital could not be at blame because even it was contaminated medicine, it still had some kind of medicine in it. Amazing!

I think they mean it had the glitter in it when it arrived at the hospital.. so the company that produced the drug fucked up.
