Haden Church is perfect for Sandman, but Topher Grace as Venom? What the fnark? Dude better be hitting the GNC Weight Gainer like no other.

Huh... Well seeing as how Venom would have to be 98% CG for most of it, all Topher will be doing is the voice, and the non-costumed drama. I just cringe at how they'll be messing with the story history to even introduce the symbiote. No Secret Wars, no Peter rejecting the symbiote... The thing about Venom was that both the parasitic costume AND the host Brock hated Spider-Man/Parker for their own reasons, now that's gone.

Raimi did such an awesome job with the first two though (in my opinion) I'll just wait and flop down my 8 bucks on faith.

I do believe that they will be going the ultimate route on the venom costume. Thus topher is okay....no need for a gain in weight if they go that route....sucks but is most likely

Yeah, but Eddie Brock, if they were going to go that route, is a huge guy. I dunno. I have faith in Raimi, too.

how unexpected, raimi said many times that he hates venom so badly that he'd rather not make the movie at all than put him in it.

The storyline has been "fixed" since the 90s for the cartoon and various comic spinoffs.

Now the symbiote was brought back by an astronaut......

Funny. There was something in the second Spiderman movie about an astronaut coming back from a historic space mission. Whatever could have been getting set up there?

As for Raimi hating Venom.....yea, but almost all the fans bitch for Venom. Frankly, I don't think it matters if he likes the villain or not, he's already shown us he's an incompetant jackass who can't give the villains any depth or write a solid story. The plot/logic holes in those movies are big enough to throw an alternate universe through it.

I don't know whether or not I'm happy that venom will be on screen cause he is by far the best spiderman villan, or upset cause the spiderman movies suck and I'm afraid of what they are going to be doing to the character.

I think that the prospect of a good Venom will make me see it in the theatres (cause I totally skipped the last one which was a good thing cause man did that shit blow).

Raimi didn't write Spiderman, David Koepp did. Spiderman2 was written by three guys, Alfred Gough, Miles Millar and Michael Chabon.

The way I see it, Venom=Evil Spiderman so why not make Eddie=Evil Peter Parker. So basically, cast another skinny, goofy white guy and give him a sort of sleazy, amoral quality.

And I don't see how anyone can be pissed about a Venom origin that doesn't have the Secret Wars. I mean, I read it and Spider-Man getting his black costume is such a small plot point in the grand scheme of it. I never read the Sin Eater stuff though, so maybe that's where his origin gets good. Personally, I'd go with the Ultimate origin since space creatures seem excessive in a movie that's already about a superhero.

Sort of like being bitten by a radioactive spider?
surreal

I absolutely hate the second half of the first film, but the first half and nearly all of the sequel were damn near perfect. It's a superhero movie - logic wasn't stretched any more so than it is in the comic book. If you dislike logic/plot holes in a comic book, well, that's another story. It does seem a bit discongruous to accept them in one format but not the other.

can't blame him either, venom has no depth to begin with, it's a angry shapeshifting black blob woohoo.
i share raimi's loathing for venom, he'd make a terrible movie villain since all he really does is wreck stuff, if venom wasn't so very powerfull he'd barely be suited for a little side villain because that's about all the depth he has.

"We have really great people though as the villains in this film, Thomas Haden Church and Topher Grace -- Venom and Sandman," said Dunst, who plays Mary Jane Watson in the Spidey films.

"Maybe I wasn't supposed to say that," she added before reversing her claim. "It's the other way around. You're right," she conceded to a journalist.

Kirsten Dunst is an idiot.

Am I the only one who doesn't perticularly love the films? surreal

I saw them and seem to be the only one to ever think they were "alright".

I guess though when compaired to what comic based movies have come out, it's not hard to be the lead dog in that pack of mongrols. tongue

Edited to add, that I am interested to see this film at least to see the route they do end up taking with Venom...storyline and just overall appearance.

These two sentences, uttered about anything regarding the Marvel Universe, are hilarious.

That said, I'm looking forward to watching Venom kick some ass.

She becomes a more or less recognizable Mary Jane toward the end of the sequel, and that's probably the stage of her character we'll see most of in the third film.

I don't think it's such a big deal that she was less recognizably Mary Jane earlier on, since they basically melded her character with Gwen Stacy -- Dunst did a credible job of portraying that merged character.

Raimi isn't credited as a writer, but he had plenty of hand in it (particularly the second one). He's also the one who insisted that Spidey 2 film without a script....

Oh! I forgot to mention unresolved plot points, also. "Argh, we the police and people of New York hate Spiderman! Wait, a small group of us love him at the end of the first movie, and by the time the second one rolls around noone even mentions if he's still wanted or not!"

So, uh, how exactly did Ock buy/drag all that equipment down there without anyone noticing or stopping to ask....

Or why throw a car directly at a normal human being when you need them alive.....

Etc....

I'll stick with the XMen movies, but the Marvel whore in me will still end up buying Spidey 3.....it'll sit well next to...*shudder*both Fantastic Four movies.
