Steve Martin is a god, not the G-d but a god nonetheless. When I try to remember my childhood I mostly come up with images of The Man with Two Brains and The Jerk. But in recent years his works has turned to the more complex with such theater plays as Picasso at the Lapin Agile and the novella Shopgirl.

Next month Touchstone Pictures will release the film adaptation of Shopgirl with Martin writing, producing and starring.

Shopgirl is about Mirabelle [played by Claire Danes] who oversees the rarely frequented glove...

Shopgirl was great, and I'm sure his movie will do it justice. Anything Steve Martin is attached to in a creative capacity (as opposed to just a hired gun actor) is very likely going to be worthwhile.

Cool interview - you're getting some very well known folks of late.

Just to ask a meta-question - do you feel like you're becoming more of a celebrity as your interviewees become more well known?

Just curious - I come sorta late to SG but it seems like there's a push to get SG out into the world as a media movement/official "voice of the" whatever this is wink.

Well thats a good questions. I dont think i am a celebrity even though like alot of them I am using my "stature" to try and get more opportunities for myself. Is that what celebs do?

I have no idea what you mean with this question though "there's a push to get SG out into the world as a media movement/official "voice of the" whatever this is wink"

Yeah - as you gain influence you get more influence - sort of like dustbunnies get more dust as they get bigger. (sorry, stupid metaphor but I was gonna do planets accreting dust and that just seemed way overblown)

That's kinda cool actually - and it goes with the "force of nature" theory below wink.

Maybe it's me reading into things (I often think too much) but I see more references to SuicideGirls in the world now than I did before.

Some of it is just force of nature - we are therefore you MUST pay attention to us because - we are.

Some of it is just because I'm some little bitty part of this whole thing I pay more attention now.

But I think some of it is SuicideGirls the brand trying to become more brandlike by being more out in the public. Since I'm not so much the target demo it's hard for me to say what SG is supposed to be but it seems like it wants to be something biggrin.

Anyway, that was more me pontificating than anything else - sorry! smile

At any rate, it was a good interview biggrin Thanks!

LOVE the book. LOVE Steve Martin.

The casting for this movie is impecable. I'm so excited. Thanks for the interview, I'm counting down the days until Shopgirl is released.

Read Shopgirl as a college freshman, after picking it up at the campus bookstore. Loved it. Cannot wait for film. If for no other reason than to jog my memory of the book, without having to read it.

(I am teh lazy.)

Also, it appears I should remedy the fact that I have never seen The Jerk.

I did like S.M. in Parenthood, though... And it was interesting watching Bowfinger once on the Capitol Limited to DC.

edit: Astoundingly good interview as well. I should mention that. Some, I have reacted with a profound 'meh', but this time, on each side, question and answer, the job was top-notch.

Maybe the better the subject the more refined the questions become?

Are you the Robert Horry ("Big Shot Bob") of celeb. interviews?

I think Steve Martin could be G-d. There's no reason why George Burns and Morgan Freeman should be allowed to have all that glory.

I was just watching LA Story the other day and it had been a while since I saw it last. I was somewhat marvelled at how significant the signpost was, not just as a guiding force of order among chaos but as a beacon to future technology that would guide us mere mortals. How did he know to create such a character that may as well have been the modern day burning bush? (Well, those are legitimate hazards in LA) Quite simple: Steve Martin is G-d.
