In Omaha, Nebraska, a man, plagued by his neighbors' complaints to mow his over-grown lawn decided that rather than get up off his lazy ass and mow the damned lawn, he was going to put way more effort into the task than needed by mowing the expletive, "Fuck You" into his grass.

The homeowner, who neighbors told KETV NewsWatch 7 has the last name Miller, cut a two-word expletive into his front lawn after being warned by the city about excessive grass and weeds around his house. The phrase is about 30 feet long across his yard.

Apparently this possibly is his way of dealing with a stupid law:

City codes dictate that lawns taller than 10 inches can be ticketed, but Parks and Planning officials said that unless the grass that formed the expletive met that criterion, there was nothing they could do to force its removal.

Haha! I guess that means he won!

Dude is my new hero.
If only I could go back in time to my youth when my father ordered me to go mow grass on Saturdays.

Yeah, what an amazing guy for making his neighborhood look like a dump. Maybe he should park some rusty broken down cars on his lawn too, that'll show them how rebellious he is.

Or it'll show them to keep their noses out of other people's business. Mowed expletives don't really make the neighborhood a dump, either, dumps imply a total lack of effort and mowing words ain't easy.

I had a neighbor once who never mowed his lawn, parked broken-down cars in his yard, and had a broken section of fence that to my knowledge he still hasn't fixed after 10 years.

I think mowing "Fuck You" into his yard would have been refreshing. At least then I would have known he was still alive in his house.

Have you ever been in Nebraska? I grew up there, and let me assure you it's a vast wasteland of overgrown grass and rusty broken-down cars (hell, stack them on top of each other and they'll call it a monument). He was probably just trying to fit in with the rest of the state.

Unfortunately, it's their business as well. Someone with a shitty yard can drag down the housing prices for the entire neighborhood. It becomes an eye sore to all who visit the area. Just like when you drive through a shitty ghetto part of town and see crumbling sidewalks, broken windows, and abandoned ransacked cars all over the place.

I'm honestly surprised that the city is the one doing this rather than the neighborhood. The neighborhood here in the burbs where I grew up had a neighborhood charter with several restrictions about what you could and couldn't have in your yard and so forth. For example, we weren't allowed to fence in our front yard.

On the other hand, D.C. is a lot meaner about the grass. If you let it grow too tall, not only will they ticket you, but they'll send a county work crew out to mow your lawn and then charge you for the work.

Conboy said he is "disappointed" that someone would use his First Amendment rights in such a manner.

hahah.... fuck em... fuck em all, I would have done the same thing. There's this guy that lives in my parent's neighborhood who put up a full size flag pole embedded in concrete. the H.A. asked him to remove it because it was tacky... ol' dude (who is a WWII veteran) said "fuck you... you want my flagpole gone, you come and remove it your damn self... and I'll be waiting for you."

the flagpole is still there 4 years later

I think that's pretty fucking cool for that guy to do LOL I know I'd laugh my ass off if I drove by and saw "Fuck you" mowed in someone's lawn. Hell, I'd probably turn the car around and snap a pic with my digital camera. Sounds like a Kodak moment to me. Someone should post a pic of it or something.

No...it's clearly not any of their business since there are laws covering the issue. If they want to draw up a neighborhood charter, they should do it. If they want the law to change so that he has to keep it neater, they should work to change it. Nagging someone is only a good way of getting things done if you're that person's mother; in other cases, like this one, it only servers to make the situation worse. It really wasn't any of their business, and if their property values degrade now, they can blame themselves. Slightly unkempt lawns do not drive property values down, but I'll bet the words fuck you do... If only because it will be obvious that there are some pushy jerks living in the neighborhood. Having lived next to assholes like these before, I am right with this guy.
