The important question is "How do you pronounce 'measure'?" My family and I say "may-zure". My wife makes fun of me, because she says it like "mehzure".

I concur... with your wife.

Letterman sometimes says "may-zure," and when he does it makes me laugh, so it can't be all bad. wink

Haha , yeah, there are alot of words like that. Wash or worsh? On or own? BTW, I'm a "mehzure" girl myself.

Me too. For some reason it's funny to hear a diphthong where you expect a regular vowel.

I say "y'all" on occasion.

I even say "all ya'll" sometimes.

Usually only when I've been really drunk for a while, though... then my 5 years of living in Missouri start to creep into my voice. smile

My ex-boyfriend mocked me mercilessly for saying may-zure. I had never realized the difference before, now I can't say the word without consciously thinking about the pronunciation.

In Pittsburgh, I've heard the second-person plural expressed as "yinze", like "Alla yinze."

I heard that's some sort of Appalacian thing

By the way, I use the word "howdy" sometimes. Anybody else do this.....anybody?

I started using both "howdy" and "y'all" sarcastically. My usage became so frequent, though, that there's scarcely a trace of irony left. Today I use them both often, and without thinking twice about it. Living in Florida for two years probably didn't help...

The second person plural is "you", same as the the first-person singular. So I think "y'all" is a fine contraction, a lot better than "You guys" which is the informal second-peron plural where I'm from.

Is'nt first person singular "me"?

I intentionally started saying "howdy" when I was in high school, I still say it sometimes.

It's I.

I made a mistake, I should have said second-person singular.
