Sea lions were once driven to the brink of extinction, but thanks to the 1972 Marine Mammal Protection Act, they're back... and apparently, they're pissed off! Rowdy sea lions are fucking shit up along the California coastline, making life difficult for wealthy boatowners and homeowners.

A pack of rowdy sea lions has invaded Newport Harbor, sinking boats, thrashing docks and, with their nonstop barking, turning residents into sleepless zombies.

Tonight, the Harbor Commission will discuss the situation, which took on added urgency after 18 sea lions piled onto a 37-foot sailboat this month and sank it.

Sea lions have also tormented Monterey, trapping people aboard boats, attacking city workers and defecating and vomiting on docks.

Elsewhere, the animals have attacked swimmers, chomped boogie boards and even yanked people off boats.

So there's a gang of 200-to-800 pound animals invading wealthy coastal neighborhoods, puking and shitting on stuff, sinking boats by dogpiling onto them for no apparent reason, and staying up all night partying and barking? This has got to be one of the funniest problems I've ever seen.

Someone should videotape this and put some ramones playing in the soundtrack.

I'd probably start vomiting and shitting myself from the laughter.

From the story:

Some Newport Beach residents fear that their harbor could be the next one overrun by sea lions, which typically weigh 200 to 800 pounds.

California Sea Lion (Zalophus californianus)

California sea lion males are larger than females. Males may weigh up to 1,000 pounds and females may weigh up to 220 pounds.

I spent 7 years volunteering at the Marine Mammal Center. I tell you, you haven't lived until you've walked into a pen packed with 30 hungry sea lion pups, carrying a big bucket full of fish. They don't really differentiate between your hand and a fish and all you you have to protect you is a board. You haven't experienced life to its fullest until you've sat on the back of a 600 pound elephant seal, while someone shoves a tube down its throat to feed it. You are missing out if you haven't gotten to hand feed a sea otter or hold a swaddled harbor seal while it gets an IV. Amazing animals.

Hell yes. Also,

If you really wanted to see that, you could just come to one of my family reunions sometime.

Newport? This couldn't happen to a nicer group of folks! I would love to see that video, and the resident's faces as their boats sink. ARRR!!!
