Isnt it kind of strange how you can grieve over the loss of a loved pet in the same way you greive over the loss of a loved family member or friend? My brother's dog, Mojo, died today. He was almost 9 years old and was the coolest fucking dog ever. Never hurt a fly. He was like another member of our family. frown

man do i feel your pain
i never have cried when someone in my life has passed away
i mourned them but none of them meant nearly as much to me as my cat, who died in early march and really my life has not been anywhere near right since

it took me months to pick up her food bowls...
i would go on but i would lose it all over again.

any one who is curious about how it effected me can read about it here:

I remember when my brother first brought him to our old house. Telling my mom, "I want to introduce a new member of the family to you. Don't be mad that he is black."

Awww. frown Pets ARE family. You aren't crazy. My cat is my baby. He's the one constant thing in my life. If I ever want to make myself cry, all I have to do is think about him dying. Just the thought of his cute face... hell, I'm tearing up NOW.

You aren't crazy. Pets can show love, and you can love them, and it isn't creepy.

Mojo was adorable. What a cute doggie.

It's not weird at all. Our companions have personalities and create memories and lasting bonds with us. These feelings are real and to be expected. It's OK to mourn.

I remember when my dog puppy jones died. Her last day she couldn't even walk anymore, but everytime I would go towards her, she would wag her tail. I sat with her until she didn't wake up anymore. frown

Genius! biggrin

We lost a kitten in January. She was 8 months old and with us for most of it. I cried like a baby when we first took her to the vet and the next day when we came to the realization that she was terminal and suffering, and the best thing was to put her to sleep. I wore her little pink collar as a bracelet for months and only took it off because I was afraid of ruining it. Thinking about her still makes me sad.

And yet, my Grandfather passed away a little over a year ago, I don't remember shedding a tear and was close with him.

That's what I did. I never wanted a tattoo. I didn't dislike them, I just didn't know what I wanted to have with me forever. After losing my boy of 14 1/2 years, I knew exactly what I wanted to have with me forever.

He's went away nearly 2 years ago and I couldn't even type that without tears. So yeah, it's a very traumatic experience. frown

I'm sorry to hear about Mojo.

We have emotions and we get attached to things. Even objects. But with living things. they also move and feel so you get more attached to thoughs. A pet has a life, part of the family. So yes it is very sad when one passes away.

Recently, I lost my beloved pet mouse Mina, who I had for over 2 years.

On Friday, I bought this little guy:

Little Remy will live for a good 15-20 years. I am happy because I am attached to him already, and I am looking forward to a lifetime of love and cuddles! biggrin
