I watch too many films to have a favorite, but I’m a big fan of horror. I’ve always had a great apperception for James Whale’s Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein. I think his ideas of horror in the 30’s were fantastically shocking but still maintained a bit of style rooted in the expressionist movement (sorry if I’m coming off as arrogant). Also, the amount of flamboyantly gay imagery that he worked into the movies and managed to get past Universal is impressive – I think it goes to show that if you have something to say, you will find a way to say it.

I'm far too lazy for synopses, but they're all well known films anyways.

Magnolia, Pieces of April, Ghost World, Big Lebowski, Saved!, Fargo, Boondock Saints, Suicide Kings, Big Fish, Reservoir Dogs.

I've seen a lot of movies that I really loved, but oddly enough, and I can't really explain it, I still stand by "The 5th Element" and "The Princess Bride" as my all time favorite movies, if not the best movies of all time.

I haven't met anyone who didn't like/love those movies. I bet a few here'll show the other side though, and poo to you guys. =P

Just a few of recommendations of favorite films that don't always seem to get a lot of mention. I tend to plug them a lot:

Salome's Last Dance - Ken Russell's play within a play has Oscar Wilde retiring to his favorite brothel one evening where the owner, friends, and protitutes perform an elborate production of his banned play, Salome. Decadent, hilarious, and delicious entertainment all around. My absolute favorite Ken Russel movie.

Ruling Class - A British comedy / musical that centers on a young Peter O Toole as the next in line of a "Lordship" who thinks that he is really Jesus Christ. His family's attempts to cure him appear to succeed but go horribly awry. A social commentary that asks some of the same questions of Clockwork Orange, is the cure necessarily better than the infliction.

Cyrano De Bergerac - This is the Depeardiu version of the story with subtitles masterfully provided by Anthony Burgess. A romantic exciting adventure pulsing with living language. Best version ever - Even better than Roxanne!

Ikiru - Not one of Kurosawa's more well know samurai films, this tells the story of a mid level beleagured beurocrat who finds out he is going to die. He goes through several stage of acceptance until deciding on a course of action that makes a difference. Sometimes a bit slow in the telling, it never fails to touch me. An extrodianary movie about a man who does something with an ordianary life.

"Santa Sangre" a very underrated film by Alejandro Jodorowsky ("El Topo") , I won't bother with a snynopsis as it's not an easy film to describe, and definately not for everybody. But if you have a bold taste in film, check it out

You can make it easy. Little boy sees his father cut off his mother's arms. Little boy becomes his mother's arms.

Little bit more involved than that, but um ...ok, did you like the film?

Yes i did... although i think Holy Mountain and El Topo are much better films.

Yay, hurray for Jodorowsky fans. Did you know about the second part of El Topo Abelcain apparenlty there were some legal problems and Jodorowsky has to change the name of Ell Topo to El Toro, and he couldnt name the movie "the sons of el topo"

But going back to the subject, my fav movies are Amores Perros and Last life in the universe.

I did hear about this, it's a shame. I also heard Marilyn Manson has a part in it as well, should be interesting no matter who is in the cast.

A truly great film that avoids the kind of cheesy, maudlin, sentimentality that you'd expect from a "serious" movie about death.

I suppose it's only a matter of time before some studio cranks out a cheesy, maudlin, remake starring the likes of Robin Williams or Tom Hanks, etc... puke
