It’s been a big year for comic book creators in the movies with Frank Miller co-directing Sin City and the Fantastic Four movie being such a big hit. It was going to get even better with the reteaming of Terry Zwigoff with Daniel Clowes on Art School Confidential. But since that movie has been delayed we’ll have to tide ourselves over with Clowes’ newest hardcover book, Ice Haven.

Daniel Robert Epstein: Was all the material in Ice Haven originally in Eightball?

Words cannot express how much I admire Clowes and his work. Now I know why Art School has been delayed. I'm glad they are going to give it a wider release.

Great interview! As much as I love and respect his work, I don't think I'd ever want to meet him, because no matter how miniscule an interaction we had, I'd probably end up being made fun of in one of his books.

He's just not massively popular.

Thanks for the interview, it was great.

David Boring and Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron are among my favorites.

I met him a few years ago at a friend's wedding and he never made fun of me!

A nice pair are he and his wife.

Just had a look at IMDb.com and there's no mention of a UK release date. Hopefully it won't be pushed back even further to avoid the 2006 Spring/Summer blockbuster season.

By the way, does anyone else find it virtually impossible to buy a copy of Eightball in your local comic book shop these days?

It's impossible, which makes me very, very sad.

Yeah, there just doesn't seem to be variety anymore. And comic book staff will only order a specific title for you if it will sell to more than a handful of fans. They don't take a chance with independent titles like they used to.

I used to love Optic Nerve, too. But you would have more luck finding a cardinal who advocates contraception for all Catholics than you would locating a copy in the shops.

www.page45.com wink

Comic retailer of the year (well, one year), found in Nottingham. They always have most everything he's written - its a real goldmine.
