crazy, tin-foil-hat-wearing rant

Simmer down now. Wouldn't want to use up all your meds in one sitting.
Seriously though, what is your deal? Did you even read what you wrote? As far as I know, none of us hired Mike Brown, blew up the 17th Street levee, or (with a few notable, vocal, and in one case, frothing, exceptions) voted for the current administration. We are giving what we can when we can. As much as I'd like to help my fellow citizens I'm not sure how me getting fired, kicked out of school, AND out of my home does that. Unless you want refugees from the North heading down South which I geuss would make for a refreshing change of pace.
Anyway,
GET A GRIP .

Very few people in the world can afford to quit their jobs, leave their homes for weeks at a time, feed and shelter themselves while out volunteering, and do it all without finding themselves homeless when they return.

When does volunteering involve quitting your job? You have days off... what are you doing then? You obviously have time to browse the internet for porn.

Want to know why I'm so pissed at all you lazy, self-centered ignorant sheep?

While you were busy making up wild excuses on why you JUST DIDN'T HAVE TIME.... the gov't barred the red cross from even entering the city... yes, the red cross was never even in the city to help, our gov't stopped them. They said, don't worry, we'll handle it. THEN, 500 of 1700 of the 500 police force quit. The military has moved in, going door to door to confescate LEGALLY OWNED firearms. So they could more easily move out the last of the holdouts, the who actually want to rebuild their city for themselves, people who WANT to make a difference. The police chief then said after a military takeover, where the citizens, oh wait, we are civilians now, had their LEGALLY OWNED firearms confiscated, have their constitutional rights violated, are forced out of the property THEY own... and I fucking quote you -
"We have complete control over the city at this time," said Edwin P. Compass III, superintendent of the New Orleans police. "I think we have had three crimes in the last four days. This is the safest city in America."

While you sat on your ass with better things to do, you let this happen. You said, I pay taxes, let the gov't take care of it. And we all did. And we handed over all our responsibility in the community and to our county. And they took our responsibility, I mean we gave it to them, we believed them when they said they knew how to take care of us. And when we handed over our responsibility, we handed over our power.

Again, I ask, what are you doing, other than antagonizing people on the internet?

Oh, and newsflash -- not all of us have paid time off left this year. If I take any time off, it comes out of my paycheck.

Also, where am I going to get the money to travel down there? I live paycheck to paycheck.

So I'm doing what I can HERE. I can't go there, so I'm working here. Good enough for you?

Next time you have a rhetorical question like this, do us all a favor and give us a chance to say "hell no, you blathering tool". Then go to a farm yell at actual livestock; you'll probably be taken more seriously there.

That sound you hear is the point flying way over jellybean's head.

For someone to accuse the rest of us of being out of touch, and then claim that houses cost 200k is laughable. If the housing market is that low in San Diego, book me a ticket and call a me real estate agent!

Your work has a Red Cross donation box? Wow!! Only problem: this article is about Red Cross needing volunteers to travel to the Gulf Coast in order to give the people their a break, this has been pointed out so many times, I really wonder if you're purposely being dense, or if this is just you being you. Again, if you're not helping in the Gulf, you really have no right to criticize anyone else for not doing that.

It's nice that the people you work for are doing their part. Now if we could only get you to do the same....

the one problem with volunteering is that no one pays your bills while you're away. if this issue were able to be properly taken care of, I would have been there last week.

For once in your lifetime aren't your bills a little less important than helping people who don't even have a home/job/jack shit? I bet they all wished they had bills to worry about, instead of worrying about how they are going to feed themselves.

Would have, should have, didn't.

how about stopping the back-tracking and tell us just when you told your job that you wouldn't be there for a few weeks or months and where from New Orleans you're taking the time to post from?

oh, or did you mean that needing to work their help around their regular jobs is only something that applies to you?

This is what I mean, wouldn't you like to live more than just paycheck to paycheck? This additude (why should I do it? can't I just pay someone?), that we shouldn't have to do things for oursleves, is exactly why you find yourself is this current dilemma. And trust me, its a dilemma, (I don't actually expect any of you to take time off of work, but I do want to make all of you to question yourselves) All of our power to do things for ourselves anymore, has been lost. Why? How?

Wouldn't you like to have a job where you can afford a morgage and save for your kids college fund? What happened to the middle class our parents enjoyed? We find ourselves in these shitty dead end jobs with no real eduacation (your unfinished community college credits mean jack shit to your employers.) to move up, and no way to live on your own and try and educate yourself because you don't have time to go to school and work. And gawd forbid you add kids into the picture. You'll be lucky if you can afford to buy a washer and dryer for your shitty rented condo.

Don't you wonder what happened? Don't you ask why? Slowly but surely prices rose dramatically for things like housing and the cost of family healthcare... things that don't seem so important when your more concerned about CD's you bought.

Do you wonder why houses cost 200K? Do you wonder why only the rich kids seem to be enjoying higher education these days? Suddenly you might look around you and start to see you don't really have a whole lot of power left to change your situation, and its only getting worse.

This would be an excellent time for you to back the fuck up, my friend...

I know, asking people to think, and put the two things together is a toughy. How does me calling my generation a bunch of lazy asses have to do with people in my generation not being able to live decently anymore? This is the root of the problem, and its really big.

I'm yelling at you to get your attention. Your parents telling you didn't work. Your teachers, your bosses.

We don't have alot of decision making power anymore in our communities. We basically have to pay someone to do stuff we used to be able and WILLING to do ourselves. So shit costs alot more.

A good cultural example, I was watching home movies (adult swim) on dvd, last night and Brendan is argueing with his mom about how she was going on the fieldtrip to chaparone... "Mom, you don't have to go, we pay taxes for this kinda thing." And Brendan's mom looks and says "I'm sorry honey, I'm a better citizen then that."

Don't you think the cost of living is rising higher and faster than our wages today? But why?

A) Wrong thread.
B) You're being an jerk about it.
C) You assume we are all lazy morons, when that is anything but the case.
D)You seem to think what you are saying is revelatory. It isn't. You also assume we are ignorant of these things. Most of us aren't.
E) You're being a huge jerk about it. Try discussion instead of insults, and barely competent ranting. Maybe people will actually listen to what you have to say. And they'd be a lot less likely to think you an jerk when you're done.

Not that you're worth my precious time, but you addressed me instead of making a blanket statement. To that, I have to respond. You have crossed not only one, but THREE lines.

First of all, I do have a degree. Second of all, it is very hard to find a good job in Michigan with my chosen degree, so I'm changing that by going back to school. Third, I vote in every election, right down to the city elections, and I vote for change. Fourth, I do volunteer work in my community even when we AREN'T experiencing national disasters. Fifth, I donate money to several charities. Sixth, my parents raised me quite well, thank you very fucking much, because they sacrificed to make sure we had clothes, food, and good schooling. Seventh, I recycle. Eighth, I never have unprotected sex. Ninth, I drive a compact car. Tenth, I exercise three times per week and eat as much organic food as possible.

Is there anything else you'd like to criticize about me, or have I justified myself to you yet? mad

Again, I ask, what are YOU doing during all of this? I haven't heard a peep about your volunteer efforts. You're just sitting there telling everyone else that they should change their job, change their life, change everything, even though it's not as easy as snapping one's fingers. Maybe you have a privileged life that allows/allowed you to sit in the comfort of your daddy-paid dorm room while harassing others, but some of us had to work our asses off to get where we are today, even if it isn't "perfect". Fuck perfect. I'm doing the best I can, and so is everyone in this thread, so shut your mouth and go back to your cave.

Me and my husband's first reaction was for me to quit my job and travel there to help, but once we sat and thought about it realized that was a bad plan. I'm taking care of my mom's bills and making all her phone calls and just basically tryin to handle everything for them. If i went back home we would have no money, nowhere to stay so we would be a burden on them. Its better for me to stay here and try to help as much as i can...

So urblueygrl has strong feelings to help but realizes that it isn't realistic to run down there to do so, so she says she'll stay up here and help however she can and she gets an "attagirl" , while the rest of us, who have basically said the same thing, are assholes. Wow. Queen of Crazy Mountain all right. surreal

so yeah, on this other forum i like to read, we've started replying to completely insane posts with ideas about what we'd like to eat. the idea behind it is that since there's no point in trying to reason with someone who's clearly just around to rant, you may as well swap dinner suggestions with the other non-crazy people in the thread.

for instance, i'm kind of sleepy, so i'm gonna go get me some honey bunches of oats with strawberries and vanilla soy milk. man i love that cereal... got it on sale too. yup.

This is what I want to see more of. Instead of leaving everything up to everyone else, you are doing everything YOU can. You are taking care of your family yourself. Your first reaction was to help... You didn't think that you can just pay someone else to do it.

You are being positive. You aren't like "well what the fuck can I do about it?" You were more worried about being a BURDEN to someone else than how it is going to affect you. Thank gawd someone has the right idea. You realize how important your family and community is.

I'm far more concerned about the selfish additude I see, because its the root of the actual problem, than what everyone did or didn't do.

I appreciate that you complimenting my wife, but you're still a dumbass.

bonanzajellybean said: Want to know why I'm calling everyone in my generation a bunch of lazy, self-centered, losers? Because no one else has the balls to stand up and actually say it. Everyones so afraid someone might point the finger back, when you give them a mirror.

I'm not.

It doesn't take balls to say anything on the internet. I was saying a lot of stupid crap on-line when I was 12, back in my days of AOL. You should visit AOL chatrooms, I think you would fit in very well there. You're "yelling" at a bunch of people that you know nothing about and you're a damn hypocrite.

You obviously have time to browse the internet for porn.

Why aren't you in the gulf helping out? Don't worry about your bills and your home, there's people that need you.

You know nothing about the people that you are talking to, so stop being such a whiney cunt.
