Yesterday i was in the subway listening to my ipod, i was listaning to some heavy shit too (as i lay dying) full blast in my headphones, out of no where some guy taps me and says can you lower that down i can hear it from here (with a attitude).....

pause for one second before i go on with the story...... WHAT THE FUCK????!!!!!!

anyway i say nope...... and he's like well i can hear it from here lower it... im like nope, dont worry about it because im getting off the train soon anyway (then i put it on full blast again)

ok now what the fuck? that pisses me off just telling it, its a free country im not lowering shit, if you dont like it then move to another seat. i have to deal with these idoits and overhearing C(RAP) music so i guess you rap people are going to deal with my loud fucking rock music............. sorry this pisses me off lol.

OMG I CAN HEAR A WHISPER OF WHAT YOU'RE LISTENING TO! Tell him he should remove the stick from his ass, as you can you see it from all the way over there.

I could understand if it was like, a library, or a movie or something, but ON A TRAIN? Call the whhaaammmbulance!

P.S. Maybe I have a stereotypical view of NY subways, but wouldn't it be a good thing if the greatest of your inconveniences on a given trip was overhearing a whisper of someone's iPod?

ok i understand courtesy, but what your not understanding is that he said it with a complete asshole attitude "demanding me" in other words...... im not a pussy so if you tell me like that im not going to do what you want me to do, let him learn how to speak to people then i'll lower it

He was either having a bad day or really hated your taste in music. If I was on a train and some guy was blasting Kenny G or Puffy Ami Yumi, I'd probably tell him to turn it down with some attitude.

Like i said..... simply put, if you want me to be nice then ask me nicely or in a normal way (then i'll have some courtesy), if you want to be a asshole and tell me like a dick then i'll be even more of a asshole

I had the same thing happen to me last summer, I was sitting in my car with my windows rolled up (except the drivers side, because it was hot out) listening to music at what I thought was a respectable level and some bitch in the car next to me YELLED at me to turn down my music. 1) I'll repeat your first question: "WHAT THE FUCK?" 2) my window was up, so I barely heard her. In your case, I would have done the same thing. In my case I turned up the fucking music and rolled down my windows.

It's never a "whisper". It seems whenever I'm on public transit and can hear leakage from someone's headphones, it's loud enough for everyone to hear. That's obnoxious.

You've got a right to listen to your music, but I've got a right to not hear it. I don't fucking sit there reading my book aloud and interfering with you enjoying your music, after all.

Common motherfucking courtesy. Come on, people--give it a try!

(Of course, by "you" I don't mean you, Keith. Just anyone who thinks that by slapping on a pair of headphones they're allowed to use them without any regard for anyone else, regardless of the social situations they put themselves in.)

I wouldn't have had it loud enough anyone could have heard it in the first place so it would have been a non-issue. Some dumbass on the plane last week was watching a movie on his laptop (fine) without headphones (WTF?!).

I find it funny that when someone is listening to loud rap music they are "idiots", but when you listen to your loud rock music you are entitled, victimized, justified, and some kind of fucking hero. You think people blasting rap are idiots, and the rest of the world thinks you're an idiot. I suppose in your mind you're right and we're all wrong (or just idiots).

I would not have been in the situation, because I know how annoying it is to hear four competing beats blasting out of headphones on the train when I'm trying to read, hold a conversation, or listen to my own music at a volume that doesn't rupture my brain.

Had I been the other guy, I would have just laughed at you internally, knowing the burden that your lack of basic courtesy will place on your life.

Nobody wants to hear your music, and they shouldn't have to. On the old els in Philly, they used to have signs that said no loud radios. It's fucking rude to force everyone to listen to your shit, no matter how rockin' you think it is. I rode PT all through high school and halfway through college and always had music, and I was always careful not to force anybody to listen to it with me. Nobody likes that guy. It wasn't just that guy, he was just the first one with the balls to say something.

Leakage from headphones is no louder than having a normal tone of voice conversation with someone. If someone asked you to stop talking because he could hear your conversation from across the car, you'd laugh.

I'm all about common courtesy.
but I also feel that its public transportation!!
for christs sake. Do they expect a serene calm bus ride or something.
I'm sure you all do know what public transportation consists of.
Learn to like it or get a fuckin car.
People need to get over the thought that the world revolves around them. If you're going out into public NO people will not and should not be quiet because you have a headache or walk faster because youre in a hurry or not wear such offensive clothing.
get the fuck over it. the world is unique chaotic and thats what makes it so great.
You cant expect to go out and be surrounded by tons of people and think that they will all act in a manner that makes you feel as if you are the only one riding the bus, shopping, eating fastfood, etc...

But this also doesn't mean you should have it on full blast. The world doesn't revolve around you. If everyone tried to tone things down when in close contact with peers things would be alot easier for everyone.
I always survey the scene before I do something that could be potentially obnoxious to people. Then I decide if I want to be obnoxious or not! wink

This is my point exactly. It''s not the office. It's not the library. It's not a restaurant. From the trains and subways I've riden in my life, it would seem that you would *have* to listen to headphones at maximum volume to be able to hear the music at all.

If some one gets all pissy like that with me, I politely do what they ask for three reasons:
1)common courtesy
2)to avoid further harassment
3)to make them feel like an idiot for being such a dick about nothing

Blame the people you work with, not the innocents on the train.
