Don't be surprised if Pierce Brosnan returns, along with Samantha Bond as Ms Moneypenny.

Despite the hype, and constant reports of Brosnan confirming he's not continuing, it's not the first time a Bond actor has played close to the wire for more money. Roger Moore was slated for replacement a number of times; only to be announced, days before production began, of being the Bond, back in the days of Cubby Brocoli.

Not to mention, MGM, when negations began where in a weak position with Brosnan - cash reserves where low; so negotiations stumbled around £25 Million.

Since the negotiations dried up (the negotiations dried up on the MGM side, Brosnan found out afterwards, and was shocked), MGM was bought out by Sony.

Sony doesn't make gambles - the last gamble stung them hard (XXX, see below). At the present moment, Sony is in a major loss - as with conventional Japanese business, they play long-term, sacrificing the liquidity of the business over the short-term, for the long-term pay-off. Simply put; they're out of pocket for the next few years, with the PlayStation 3.

The inside word, is that Sony's losses with films like the XXX sequel (which cost them $87 Million to buy from another studio, cost them $45 Million in marketing, and brought in a measly $25 Million at the Box Office) and recent failures at the Box Office, are making them even less willing to gamble.

At the present moment, Pierce Brosnan at the star helm of the Bond franchise is the most lucrative Sony and MGM have. They're relying upon this, as with the last two, to earn big, big bucks - circa $350 Million per film. They won't risk a new actor. They'll play it safe; and rely upon the previous success of Brosnan - they have the cash to do so, but they can't take more heavy losses.

From what I hear from MGM folks; is that when Sony moved in, they where keen to reopen negotiations - and they have the cash to do so. Since then, these additional flops, will be making Sony itch for an even more sure bet, and their lips have been brushed with the success of Brosnan in Die Another Day.

It would be awsome if this happened. They made a big mistake letting him go, and even a lot of people working on the project have said so. He was everything Bond, and next to Connery, he's my favorite.

Also, I heard some disturbing remarks about Casino Royale, which was not a real Bond film, and I'm sure someone has said so. There have been 20 films, and the new Casino Royale, will make 21. Never Say Never Again doesn't count either, MGM was the studio making the official films, however, they did purchase Never Say Never Again, so it does belong to them, but it wasn't made by them.
Casino Royale is not a remake in any way, and is based off the book, which I have read. Of course they won't be able to just make the movie after the book, it wasn't long enough and didn't have quite enough action, but they said they were going to follow it to a point fairly closely, then expound on it.

Oh, I also wanted to mention that I saw someone say Jasan Statham, and I almost agree, but he's balding, that's the main problem. They also thought of Hugh Jackman, and I thought he would be great, but apparently they said he wasn't "masculine" enough... I don't know what they're smoking. He's like 6'2", not too bulky, and he can most likely do a British accent.

I'm set to be disapointed no matter what happens. I haven't liked a Bond film, or even a Bond girl, since GoldenEye ten years ago. I couldn't even sit through all of Die Another Day. I also didn't care for the Moore, Dalton, or Lazenby films.

So basically, I'll stick with Connery (sans Diamonds Are Forever) and GoldenEye on DVD.

What we really need is a bisexual James Bond.

That would be cool. Seeing him use his sexual power to seduce guards / henchmen / villains would be far more interesting than him hooking up with the series of women he ususally does.

I'd also like to see Ewan McGregor take a stab at the role.

It's funny, because I was just saying the other night how I would like to see Jason Statham take on the role of 007, but I do like the Idea of Eddie Izzard too, but it would never work. I do think Jason Statham could breathe life into the dated franchise.

Rather comically; since Sony owned the rights to both films 'Casino Royale' and 'Never Say Never Again', through the merger and a few legal wrangles on the side, MGM now own the rights of those films. But not just the rights to the films (versus the franchise rights of Bond, which they already have), but the franchise rights of those films. Simply put; nobody is allowed to remake either of those two films, without MGM's consent. And since MGM wanted the rights to get rid of the two movies, you can safely say, there'll never be a remake of those films. Which loosely translates; there will never be a comedy version of 'Casino Royale' staring the Backstreet Boys. Though, technically 'Never Say Never Again' is a remake of Thunderball, but we'll leave it there, before it gets too confusing.

I don't think anyone wants to see remakes of those two films. I want to see Casino Royale made, and the rest of the stories from the book, they got a couple left; Quantum of Solace, Risico, and The Hildebrand Rarity, from For Your Eyes Only. Then there's The Property of a Lady from Octopussy & the Living Daylights. That should be plenty for at least the next 15 years or so.
