Why do you think it could make you blind?

It's probably a good idea you do a lot of research on the subject, since you don't seem to know much about it. I considered it about 2 years ago, lost my deposit because I decided not to do it. You won't "go blind" but there are some things you should know.

First the heath concerns. Here is a website about possible side effects. Mainly it might impair your night time vision and produce halos and starburts. It also degrades over time, so even a year after your surgery your vision will start to degrade again and you'll have to go in for correction.

Also, just like contacts, it doesn't cure multiple conditions, for example if you suffer from astigmatism and myopia. Currently, I see better up close with my glasses off. If I elected the surgery, I would have to wear glasses to see up close.

Then there are the financial concerns. Some companies are pretty shady; they quote prices that no one gets and use optometrists with not as much training and experience as say an opthamologist. Don't go for these bargain basement prices you hear about, ultimately it's your eyes your fucking with.

If anybody blinded by lasers finds a way to reply to this, I'll be impressed.

Well, right, of course, but it seems kind of weird to assume that a medical procedure that millions undergo would cause all of them to go blind. That's what regulation is supposed to prevent.

In the event that your post was a joke, here is an alternate response:

DOOD! LASERS!!1

Not "all of them," but a statistically significant number of people do suffer unpleasant side effects, up to and including actual worsening of overall visual acuity or even blindness. Call me paranoid, but I'm sticking with glasses until the long-term results of vision-corrective surgery are better understood. There simply isn't enough data now---there can't be, because the procedure hasn't been around long enough.

Yes. I saw a video of it being done, it takes like 10 minutes total. They cut a sliver of it open and then you see some light reflecting off the cornea, and then they cover it up again.

I don't even like eyedrops.

I don't think your eyes are going to affect much of anything. You won't turn into Cyclops from the X-Men.

Unless you were referring to the long term effects.

Long term you can get a halo effect, spots and cloudiness in vision. It happens to a small amount of people. But blindness... not so much. Research it though, for simple nearsightedness or farsightedness it can be quite effective. I happen to have asigmatism in one eye so it would be more complicated were I to undergo the prodecure. Weigh your options. To me it's worth it to deal with contacts and glasses.
