There, now my previous posts are deleted. Not sure if I can take down the thread or not, but in any case it's still up as of right now, if you care to talk amongst yourselves.

Sorry if I'm quiet. I log on here about once a day, so I miss some of the action. I understand why many of you don't find this particularly sympathetic. That's sensisble, and motivated by your personal beliefs on the topic. I'm sorry if I've offended you, or if Matt has. But if you're not interested, don't read the thread and don't donate. Since that's the majority opinion, I'll be happy to delete it.
The thread is titled "Meth Mouth." Not "Give Money So My Pal Can Fix The Teeth He Rotted Out While Hooked On Meth." The only one who knew what this thread was really about before clicking on it was you. So telling us not to read the thread is both silly and, by this point, moot.
Look, I'm not offended by you or your friend personally. I don't know you either of you. For all I know, you could be the nicest guys walking the face of the earth. What offended me was asking for a handout for your friend to fix damge that he did to his own body. No one here is responsible for his actions, and I have a problem with you asking the rest of us to foot his dental bill.
If he had lost his teeth through an accident or genetic disease, then, yeah, I can see asking for help. That's different as it would in no way be his fault that they were damaged. If that was the case, I'd most likely donate myself. But that's not the case at all. He did it to himself, and has no right asking others to pay for it. See my point now?
While I, too, am skeptical about the whole money pitch, I'm a little put off by some of the attitudes towards addiction in this thread. Is is stupid to do drugs? Yes. But sometimes a mistake can turn into a completely ravaged life. Out of respect for a person that I love more than anything, I'm not going to spill his gory details, but let me tell you from personal experience that meth addicition is one of the most horrible and heartbreaking things that a person can go through. If I abandoned him because of his stupidity in taking it in the first place, I don't doubt that he would be dead right now. It's really easy to be cavalier and condemning until it slaps you in the fucking face.

I wouldn't donate in this situation myself because it sounded sketchy as hell to me, but my mom lost all of her teeth and nearly died from smoking. She sure did give herself all that cancer. I don't think she's entirely undeserving of sympathy. Neither did her insurer.
