CULTURE: Broke? You Can Still Help Hurricane Victims

If you want to help victims of Hurricane Katrina but just can't spare any cash, there are other ways to help. Contact your local Red Cross chapter and ask if there is any way you can volunteer your time at a local center.

I've read reports that Red Cross call centers are overwhelmed with the volume of calls in the past few days, with people wanting to donate, people needing help, or people looking for information about their loved ones. Your local chapter may need call center help, or help with fundraising drives in your area.

The chapter locator on the Red Cross website seems a bit overwhelmed at the moment, but you can also go to Google Local and type in "American Red Cross" and your location to find your local chapter.

awesome, im just as broke as the people in the Astrodome, but at least i have my parents couch... this is a great way for me to feel i am helping the cause, not just watching it for sadistic entertainment.
