The government knows everything we do, and is quite manipulative as far as keeping people seperate and busy. Do you think it's a coincidence that Hummer has been one of the most popular brands of vehicle shortly before this gas/oil thing happened? First and most important, its a status symbol, so you obviously have money to be able to afford that. Secondly, if you have money, it doesnt phase you, a few bucks here and there more for gas. I don't blame the government for everything but believe me, they are fine. Their families are fine. In high gas prices and hurricanes and fucked up shit, they are just fine.

Our own people are suffering right now in makeshift shelters and trust me if the Today show is shitting their pants you know something is wrong. The Today show is live everyday and it's very tough to hide fear. What I am wondering is if the same effort that is put out there to help other countries and this war overseas will be put into helping our own? This is something people need to tell us if they can compare experiences just to see what the American people actually get in a major crisis like this in comparison to what foreign assistance consists of??

All the countries we so called help out, where are they? Not one report of any other country coming to help us deal with our natural disaster. Not a single one so far. And the only thing that's on TV is the hurricane so I am sure one of us would've heard it by now.

Gas will hit four dollars at some point not far away, and then the shit will hit the fan.

Good luck.

So... your rational fear is based on the Today show? That's a bit frightening.

As for our country doing as much for it's own people... you've got to be kidding. Of course it will. We will rebuild and recover in time, and we will just add it all on to the national debt. But why would you expect any countries with less wealth come to OUR aid??? We are VERY priviledged here... poor or not... the poor in America are far better off than the poor in any other country. It would be nice to see doctors or skilled tradesmen come help... but financially? That would be ridiculous.

And when people want to whine about no phones, power, water... go to my reservation. There are many people living in third world conditions on Pine Ridge... but all of you don't seem to give a fuck about that.

Yes, gas will hit $4 a gallon. And I'll pay it because I have to. But Bush cutting into the reserve will only affect gas prices by one or two cents. Smart move? Definitely not, but he's got to do something because all of this is HIS fault, right?

whatever

First of all, fear isn't rational. And I was making a comment about how they cannot act their way through the program, and these people are trained professionals as to not show emotion.....

I'm not saying financially, but how about England or one of the other so called superpowers in the world that we have helped along? BILLIONS of dollars are spent on assisting other countries, while you sit there with no phone service.

I think you are jumping to conclusions about what my fear is based upon.

I am not afraid of anything other than what may happen if total chaos breaks out.

I agree, very privvy here, however if you really pay attention I honestly think there is something else to the picture that we just aren't able to see or know.

You, being of indian heritage and saying that noone gives a fuck about you or your people is wrong. I never said that and I think the Indian really does get the shit end of the stick and they happen to be some of the wisest and most respectable people on the planet. I can see that you are angry over the way you and your people are treated and fuck right, you should be. But, on the same hand....

...... your defense of George Bush....I can almost bet we will never see a woman, nevermind an Indian president. Why? Can you tell me why?

Tell me his family isnt all set? Tell me anyone right now who works or worked for the government isnt all set? If there is a person out there, please, find me one, who doesnt have benefits for life, or a nice cushy pension, or paid weeks vacation?

Most big, rich powerful people like presidents and such really don't give a fuck about the little people.
Apparently, or else you wouldn't be sitting there bitching about how bad you have it.

Get this straight, I am not anti government but you of all people should see the bigger picture here and we ALL are being manipulated like little fucking puppets.

Please, Bush has taken sooooo many vacations? C'mon. Where's our vacations?

whatever

Typical American. Relies on and believes that Television is an accurate and useful source of information. <wishes SG had an appropriate sheep icon>

Other countries have been making offers of aid and assistance. Bush initially rejected them, but now the administration seems to have changed it's mind. Rice says all hurricane aid offers from other countries will be accepted

Quit relying on television for your world view and grow up.

I think you misunderstood some of my point... I was simply saying that native people on the rez live in horrid conditions all the time. I was saying that, although it's significantly different because of the looting and violence, they have had tolerate harsh conditions and no one in mainstream society or the media thinks it's newsworthy. TB is still rampant on the rez, as are many other treatable diseases... however people are suffering on a daily basis.

The good news for the people suffering from the hurricane is that they will receive assistance and the media is focused on their situation... which ensures they will be taken care of.

As for my defense of Bush... well I just can't blindly blame everything on someone just because I don't like them or their politics. I have to be rational because that is who I am.

I realize there will not be a native president any time soon... but what does that have to do with the price of tea in China??? I can't lose myself in pity and anger because it does no one any good. I have to make the best decisions I can, stand up for what I believe in, and deal with what the reality is.

And btw... I'm not bitching about how bad I have it. I have worked hard to achieve a lifestyle that I enjoy and I do not live on my reservation. I don't take hand outs from anyone and I don't sit around and bitch about why life isn't fair.

I am not typical if there is such a thing.... and definitely not a sheeple so dont go there.

I take opinions from actual persons and go from there. Tv is a way of gaining information. Not always accurate, I agree. Definitely not useful and misleading, (at times) I know this, I produce television. Some stuff you just cant hide in a person, whether on TV or real life and if you know human behavior you can see emotions.

Maybe everyone is just sooo stressed out and bitching and moaning about everything and missing the real picture and that is to take everything in.

Not just tv, not just opinions, which is what this board is for.

And yes, I am angry at a war that revolves around mostly greed and money.
I am angry when I meet high school kids that are going to fight for this country over something noble,( but none of us know the governments' real agenda...)

none of us are in the government or else we wouldnt be on suicidegirls...c'mon.

we're looking one way, and shit is going down someplace else when we're not looking....

whatever it is....is it worth it? and yes, i get upset when i see my own country get washed into bits and killed and all this and the help isnt coming fast enough. talk to someone who is actually there and maybe you will feel the same way.
it's way worse than they say.

and i'm not going to throw cheap shots at you by telling you to grow up or anything, or calling you typical or a sheep.

speaking of sheeple, there's a good book by david icke (a little on the strange side, but i think you might enjoy it) it's called 'children of the matrix' and i think this will explain a little more about sheeple that you are accusing me of being.

Oh dammit, someone beat me to the clever punchline. biggrin

I walk damned near everywhere I go...I'm glad I do. We're thinking about investing in a bike for the husband to ride to work--get his workout out of the way, and the way traffic is around here, he'd to get to work faster on the BIKE. tongue

surreal

edited to add, 12 months ago we were paying about 0.94 AUD / litre.. ie. approx 5.00 USD / gallon
