It was kind of anti-climactic how they just sped through a year of history in an hour. That said, the part where Pollo killed that guy ruled it.

Cleopatra was cute (especially when you consider the actress is actually 26 which is a bit long in the tooth for "cute") but not breathtaking in the way you'd expect. Pollo was a great source of amusement again though and the little fat kid 'shitting and pissing' on his sister was funny.

I just watched the last two episodes last night, so forgive me for backtracking a little.

I was a little disappointed to see the long anticipated showdown between Caesar and Pompey's respective forces whittled down to three guys fighting in slow motion in front of a foggy camera lense. I wasn't looking for a Braveheart-scale sequence, but maybe something along the lines of the fight with the Gauls in the first episode.

I did like that Caesar acknowledged Verinus and Pollo's significance to all important events. I was half expecting the show to go with a Mr. Burn's level of recognition. "Simpson, ey?"

well, didn't the other events so far, from Caesar in gaul, the civil war, pompey's death etc... have years and years between them? I don't know the exact timeline, but they make it seem like a few weeks in the show. I think the only reason they acknowledged that a significant amount of time had passed in this episode was because of Caesar & Cleopatra's kid.

Got to have loved this weeks episode. Any show with someone having their head chopped off using a shield and then a skull mace being rammed down into the neck forming a two headed beast of a gladiator just knows how to please.

HOLY CRAP was last night's episode awesome. I fully expected either Pollo or Verinus to die, but those last 10 minutes were un-fucking-real.

Can't wait for next week!

It was nice to see Brutus' testicles finally drop as well.

And did I get my Roman history wrong, or isn't it Octavian who takes over after Ceasar? He still seems a mite young and er... un-powerful to be able to work that out.

Octavian is going to steam through. I loved the way he did his sister and then told her that he knew she was just trying to play him biggrin He is his mother's son.

Well, its always the 2nd to last episode of the season that is the best, and this one really delivered. Finally the violence I was craving came through, in one of the most brutal fight scenes since Braveheart, Gladiator and Saving Private Ryan.

I didn't think either one of the main characters would die though, its too early to kill them off.

Will Verenus die?

The foreshadowing after last night's episode included Brutus telling his co-conspirators, "we must reckon with Verenus," which is ambiguous.

Before Verenus jumped into the arena to save Pullo, I would have thought his loyalty to Caesar would get him killed by Caesar's enemies, but his intervention on behalf of Pullo isn't going to make Caesar happy...on the other hand, Verenus has been a die hard defender of the republic from the start...on the other hand, if Brutus et al believe Verenus is loyal to Caesar...and after Caesar has revealed his willingness to sacrifice the veterans and Pullo individually for his selfish political expediency, and suppose Verenus learns that it was Caesar who was paying Erastes to kill citizens and Erastes was hiring Pullo...if that corruption is revealed to poor earnest Verenus...

...and Polly Walker makes my dick so hard it hurts...

Why would a Rome HBO group be declined? frown frown frown

They have a group for every other pud show.

They might as well make an HBO show group, if there isn't one already? I'm sure most people who are fans of Rome, watch and enjoy all the other HBO programming.

Anyone else watch last night's episode?

Caesar's death was well done. It avoided copying other well known portrayals, but remained somewhat truthful to the historical event (or what we know of it).

I wish in the first season they had spent more time showing Caesar's relationship with Octavian. It will seem odd in the second season when a boy suddenly becomes Emperor of Rome.

I thought all new series were over 20 episodes these days. frown I suppose we have ages to wait for series 2.

HBO shows tend to be 12 or 13 episodes a season.

I don't think the new season is supposed to air until 2007.
