I'm starting to get like that....

The day that I bought a pair of pointy toe stilletto boots I knew I was doomed.

I was eyeing a pair of jeans with the wear and tear too, and I actually stopped myself - but that doesn't mean I won't be going back for them! lol

I study fashion, but bizzarely enough I don't really rate it much...

By that I mean 'fashion' in the sense of 'current trends'.. it bores me...

Fashion in the sense of construction of complex garments or its social-political & historical connotations does interest me though.

Am I in the wrong thread here?

No no no...please I do love discussing things like this. Although I am "new" to "fashion" I always love learning and discussing. You did kind of lose me with the whole social-political & historical connotations part. Mostly with the word connotations. If you do not mind I would love to keep this topic going and start discussing fashion, in any sense any of you feel is deemed necesarry. (if that doesn't make sense tell me sometimes things I say online only make sense to me)

Throughout history fashion was one of the major factors in a person's social caste. In Roman times, you would be able to tell a persons status and profession by how their toga was draped. Historically, fashion changed just as music, art, and literature changed, all depending on what the world was like at the time. If you study costume history, it's quite interesting. biggrin

Now me personally, *I* immediately thought
"Turn to the Left
Now turn to the right...
Sashay...Chanter"
from Rupaul's "Supermodel"

tongue biggrin

ANYway - yep. I'm a BIG fashion freak. I hawkeye the runways every season and frequent little boutiqes that feature up and coming designers. (Not that I can actually afford to own any of it eeek ) Fashion is art, in my opinion.

Don't "current trends" reflect what will one day be recognized as the "social-political & historical connotations"?

Are you saying that current fashion is somehow different from historical fashion?

I was sitting next to my boss yesterday on a flight from SF to Chicago and she had an InStyle magazine, and it was at about the point where I said, "look at the brow line on Sharon Stone, it's so perfect, but I think the pencil skirt's not working for her..." That I really started to reevaluate my life.
