Have you ever eaten molasses? I never have (not that I know of anyway). I've only had sugar, brown sugar, honey, and maple syrup.
My question is does molasses smell like any of those things? The reason I want to know is that I'm setting out some baits for crickets and apparently they like the scent of molasses and vanilla, but I don't have any molasses in the house and don't want to have to buy a whole bottle for this little experiment.
Any ideas on what I could mix together to help replicate the smell of molasses will be greatly appreciated!
If you mix brown sugar with maple syrup, you'd have what molasses smells like. It's really thick, and smells really sickeningly sweet...like what brown sugar smells like times 10.
Molasses does taste good mixed with butter on biscuits, so if you do end up getting a bottle of it, you may end up liking it.
brown sugar (most of it, unless it's the spendy turbinado sugar) is white sugar with the molasses added back. The molasses is just less strong since the sugar dilutes the flavor.
