I don't know many men that don't dye their hair, or haven't at some point.

First and foremost talk to the Senior Partner, and emphasise that the dress code doesn't mention anything about hair colour. If you must, then use the argument that women are allowed to dye their hair. If none of that works, than personally I'd quit or let them fire me. After all it is only a part time job and you'll have your own business soon.

I don't know how well a sexual discrimination suit will go over. There are definitely pros and cons to that approach but I'm not one to give advice in that area.

You are not your hair.

Course if you can have both, push for that.

This isn't a situation where you could allow one sex to continue to bleach their hair and not the other.

I am not a legal expert proper legal advice is required, but the logic of the case is that the employer is allowed to require employees to observe social norms, providing that the rule is applied evenly to both genders.

If the Courts hold that it is normal for women to dye their hair, but not for men to do so, then the employer can dismiss the employee.

What are the odds that none of the male employees where he works touch up the grey?

Will you hate yourself if you dye it back? Will you hate yourself if you shave it again? Will you hate yourself if you quit the job?

Yes. I would hate the sight of myself.

Yes. I would hate the sight of myself. I've spent 3 months avoiding mirrors, I'm not going to repeat that experience.

No.

Today is Judgement Day!!!
I'm going in and I'll see what the Senior Partner says.
I'm not prepared to dye my hair back to it's natural color, because a) I am not prepared to compromize my self-image for a part-time job, and b) because the request was unreasonable and constituted sexual discrimination.
I don't think the Senior Partner will have a problem with it, but if he does, I am not going to quit, I will let him sack me for it, and then I'll take action for sexual discrimination.
Thanks again for all the advice smile

My hair has almost always been dyed. Back in the day, it could have been any color of the rainbow, but those were the "trained-chimp-punching-buttons-and-sweeping-floors" type of jobs. No one gave a shit as long as I turned up for my shifts on time. The only place I ever had trouble with was the movie theater I worked at. They wanted natural colors. So I dyed it red. Fire engine red. No one bitched about that, either, which I found infinitley amusing considering their "strict policy" on hair color.

Anyway, I've been self-employed now for so long (only recently having sold my store), that my hair color didn't matter at all. And I didn't give two tugs of a dead dog's cock what color or style my employees hair was, either. If they could do their job and be nice to the customers, I was cool with however they liked their hair. Hypocracy isn't my thing.

Anyway, I'm rambling and have no real point other than follow your heart. If you "sell out" and dye your hair a natural color, I understand. Sometimes the money's too good to turn down. I, for one, won't think less of you. If you tell 'em to stick it and keep it bleached, that's cool, too. Just do what you think is right.

Well, interesting turn of events. I went in to see the Senior Partner and collect a new prescription for my fiance. We had to wait for the Senior Partner because he had to authorize her discount, so we went away and came back. But. We suspect that the Senior Partner said something to the Manager like "You've put my business in a legally actionable position, sort it out."because before we left, the Manager said "It's not an issue anymore..." and as he was the one that had the problem with it, we think that the Senior Partner opened a can of whoopass on him for it. When we did then see the Senior Partner, he said he couldn't see a problem with my hair at all, and then gave my fiance a 50% discount on her frames, so a good result all round smile
Thanks again for all the advice.
For the record, had it gone the other way, I would have been prepared to let them sack me, because it wasn't a policy that they could enforce as it was sexual discrimination, and I wouldn't have been able to look at myself in the mirror if I had caved in and dyed it dark. I actually told the Senior Partner that he will now probably never see me with a different hair color.

Well that's good. Besides, it's not some crazy color. The bleached blond looks natural on you. It looks like you were in the sun for a few weeks.

Spike if we've learned anything from Angel, it's that the senior partners are evil and are planning for an apocalypse. Now that I gave up my right to the sanshu prophecy you are the only vampire with a soul that gets to be a real boy. Btw really liked your billy idol/sex pistols look of the 80's, are you thinking what I am thinking? I say spike up the hair and don the sex pistols tee and leather coat and then see what the senior partner says....

oh and hi btw in case you haven't noticed I am obsessed with Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Good on you!
I think most places would have a hard time banning a color that is A natural color, even if it's not the one you were born with.

But hey! Maybe you WERE a blond baby! I was...
