Well, from what you wrote, you have probably activated trigger points in your back and neck causing referred pain into your head....seriously.

Advil or Xtra strength Advil will do the trick for awhile, but if it was ME I would go to a registered Massage Therapist...she/he will (should) massage the upper back, neck area which will release the trigger points making the headache go away....It can be very painful during the treatment, but it works really well if they know what they are doing (I am a "retired" massage therapist)
the trigger points are the "knots" you may be feeling in your back and neck.

poor posture, or staying innthe same position for extended periods of time are the most common cause of TP activation

Good luck

(edit- I hate spelling)

You might want to look at the back of an excedrine tension bottle and see its ingrediants. Taking two egular excedrine is basically like taking one aspirine, one tylenol, and drinking two cups of coffee. It works best for people who have headaches due to caffeine withdrawls (which for many people happens a few hours after their last cup of coffee.

Excedrine is actually self-perpetuating. You'll probably be okay using it a handfull of times a year, assuming you aren't overly sensitive to caffeine (I took it at 8 p.m. and was up until 6 a.m.).

Usually I take a couple of Advil (ibuprofen) or three Tylenol (acetaminophen). Taking a bath or sitting in a hot tub is both relaxing and improves circulation, which can help.

I hate it when people say this (no offense to you, shmidol) but thats a load of shit, all that does is cause pain there, making you forget the pain in your head.
No medical credibility to it blackeyed

But on a serious note... see if your hotel has a hot tub or a sauna. Since your headache is probably caused by your messed up neck, relaxing those muscles will help a lot.

If you're going to do that, do it BEFORE you take any kind of painkillers.

I hate it when people say "no offense" because it almost certainly follows an offensive statement. Just by saying "no offense" does not give you a free pass to say whatever you want with a clear conscience.

Perhaps you do it incorrectly, because it works for me, and it certainly doesn't hurt. surreal And I'm sure you've done your proper research or maybe you're a doctor to say it has no medical credibility??? whatever

Exedrin products are a mix of acetaminophen(Tylenol), sometimes aspirin and caffeine. Nothing magical.
I'd check out if there is a pool (or sauna).
Float around. Stretch. Take the weight of gravity off your neck and spine.

I try water first because dehydration is a big cause of headaches. If not, I usually take a couple of parcetemol. If its caused by muscle ache then I have a weird bag thing that you put in the microwave and then I put it on the achey bit.

Maybe you could use towels to drape round the neck to keep it warm and relieve the aching or soak them in hot water and wring them out and put them on your neck - just don't scald yourself. Or if not attack the mini bar and then pass out on your bed.

sorry I came across rude..seriously.
And yes, I was a massage therapist and I am an EMT/Paramedic and have had Professors (neurologists, doctors, massage therapists, even a reflexologist) who say it has no medical credibility.

BUT I will say that if it works for you, then who cares right? the placebo effect is powerful for some smile

How to Use Shiatsu for a Tension Headache
Tension headaches are often triggered by excess work and/or excess emotional stress that continue over a period of time, leaving your body tense and fatigued. Use the following shiatsu points along the base of the skull and on the neck to release chronic muscle tension, calm the nervous system and promote the flow of congested energy down and out of the head.

Tension Release Points

Steps:
1. Clear the congestion and tension from your head by applying pressure to the central calming point on the top of your head. Place your thumbs on the tops of your ears, bring your index fingers one over the other on the top of your head and apply pressure.

2. Apply pressure to the point at the web between your thumb and index finger on the back side of your hand to release tension in the jaw, neck and shoulders. Press toward your index finger with the pad of your opposite thumb.

3. Slide your middle finger to the area on top of the foot between the first and second toes where the small bones merge. Apply gentle pressure and movement to promote the smooth flow of energy, to release muscle cramps and spasms and to release tension.

apparently the placebo effect works for a lot of people.

*sigh* *shakes head* you REALLY hate to be contradicted huh?

I could find a lot of things on the internet that may be misinformation....but NOT saying your link is........heaven forbid........
I'll stick to what my education/ professors taught me, but hey, keep squeezin' if it works for ya.
All I can say is the dozen or so massage therapist that taught me for 2 1/2 yrs, the neurologist who taught the neurology portion, the doctor who taught anatomy and physiology, the hydro therapist AND the reflexologist, ALL disregared this as an effective treatment

Well, when my migraines kick in and I truly wish I was dead because it hurts so much, 4 advil liqui-gels and a big glass of water. Then be in a dark cool comfy area, a warm cloth covering the eyes, and you should zonk out. When you wake up, all should be right with the world.

Good luck. I hope you kick the headache.

What I hate more than being contradicted is being patronized.
Please quit arguing with me about my methods for curing headaches. You tell me my suggestion is a load of shit, and I (silly me) defended myself. It sounds to me like you are the one who can't handle a differing opinion. NO OFFENSE or anything. tongue

Now, the purpose of this thread was to help someone cure their headache. I offered up all I could to help. What have you done but give me grief? geez.
