I am no star worshipper, but I've managed to run across a smattering of celebs over time. Clearly at the top of the heap is when I was at a dinner party that was also attended by George Harrison. I spoke to him for a few minutes, but pretty much left him alone. I love the Beatles, but I imagine he got a little sick of Beatles questions. I tlaked to him about football (soccer).

A couple of others that were fun were from the sports world. Once I was at my friend's gym in Chicago. When I cam back to my locker, former Chicago Bull Scottie Pippen was towellng himself off at the next stall. I didn't speak to him, but let's just say he is my anatomical idol.

Another was when I was flying from Detroit to LA. I had headphones when I got on the plane and left them on for the first hour or so. (This was before all the "turn off electrical devices" stuff) Since I wasn't paying, I was in first class.

Anyway, the old fellow next to me had a steady stream of people walking up from the back. I figured out he was signing stuff for them. When I finally took off the headphones and engaged him in a little banter I figured out it was Gordie Howe. He asked if he could borrow my magazine (sorry, it was Golf, not Skin Art). And the bastard never gave it back.

Another plane encoutner was flying back from Australia to London with Elle McPherson across the aisle. The whole thing about the camera adding pounds is true. She is kind of a bony thing and a 20 hour flight takes its toll on everyone. Still, it was fun to watch the porters scamper around trying to get her bags at the claim area."

Anyone else got "brushes with greatness" stories?

I met Muhammed Ali two years ago while waiting for my sister's airplane to land at O'Hare. At first I couldn't believe it... then I just had to go up and shake his hand because I knew I'd never have a chance like that again.

I doubt I'll ever be able to top it.

Since he has spent big chunks of his life as the most famous person in the world, that's pretty hard to top.

Hey!! Lets hear it for that guy!!

*slow claps*

So back to our conversation:

I, along with my then boyfriend, drove Jerry Lee Lewis from the San Antonio Intl Airport to Gruene Hall for his concert back in 96. We later got to watch him snort coke in his hotel room with his wife.

I made a sandwich for Ethan Hawke when he was at another boyfriend's house when my boyfriend was hired to teach him how to play ukulele for a scene in the film The Newton Boys.

At the premier for that film, I hung out with Matthew McConoughey and later, saw him drunkenly pee in a sink.

I met Quinten Tarantino at Antones here in Austin. He bought me drinks for my birthday. We got pretty shitfaced and I know at one point I told him "I thought you'd be a complete PRICK in person but you're cool"

And I've met Alton Brown twice. I served him cheesecake once

Maybe not globally famous. But I used to work in a pub where every Friday, Sir Ian Richardson would spend his lunchtimes whilst waiting for his wife to do the weekly shopping. He had the coolest stories ever, most of them about Brian Blessed though.

Maybe Mel Gibson at the first public screening of Passion back in November of 2003 at the 5th annual Aint It Cool News Butt Numb A Thon film "festival".....

During the coarse of that night I also chatted it up with Peter Jackson and company...and Paul Dini, and Eli Roth...

Making a sandwich for washed up rapper Coolio and insulting him apparently by expecting him to pay and not caring who he is.

Or maybe it was a boozy night at a King's X show in Texas with 3/4 of Pantera? Dimebag was a cool fellow....kept staring at my girlfriend's enourmous cleavage....

I peed in a public restroom next to Anthony whatshisname of the Red Hot Chili Peppers....

For awhile I lived very near boxer Roy Jones Jr and met him a few times on the street.....

Um. I really don't know. It's cool to be able to tell these stories, but I'm not the type to get star struck. Hell, I've made friendly with a childhood idol of mine, so there's really no competeing with that. biggrin

Er, edit.....not November. First week of December. Close enough.

Wow....spoken like a true heterosexual male. If I ever met him I would probably start licking him....and then be arrested.

I walked by Richard Simmons in a hotel lobby, once. Yippee. Strangely enough (or maybe not so), he was being followed by 7 or 8 plus sized middle aged women who were all singing "We Love You Richard" to the tune of the song from Bye Bye Birdie. He really does wear those shorts during the day as if he's oblivious that they look ridiculous.

I did personal security for semi-famous Canadian people...MIke Bullard, Raine (lead singer Our Lady Peace), J. Englishman, Lead singer of Jet Set Satellite....then I protected Melanie Chisolm (Sporty Spice-Spice Girls).

My biggest encounter (not working), was when I walked into the gym in Calgary and ended up "working in" doing leg extentions with Don Henly, lead singer of the Eagles........no one seems to think thats awesome....i did

oh yeah....and since celebrity-ness is relative, for any old school wrestling fans, I worked out on a regualr basis at the gym owned by the Hart's, and met 'em all several times, including going to the Hart mansion at Christmas
