Im for more reshaping of American policy based on what the governments of other nations think. Its high time America stopped worrying about the welfare of it's own people, and pandered to the opinions of the rest of the world.

We're more Swedish than the Swedes. Safer than fucking Volvo, man.

I lived in Sweden for six years. That's six HUNDRED years of your Earth time. Don't worry. No one is ever going to mistake Australia for Sweden.

Time I learned some Swedish, I think...

Ah, a cricket fan. Believe me, don't go there. You'll be crying out for an evening with Jason Gillespie.

Interesting, I would've thought Canada would be number one, and Australia barely in the top 10 due to some of the questionable laws they've been passing lately.

Pesumably this polls not only educated people, but people of all levels of awarness. That's where your wierd ratings come from. Ignorance.

canada at number two is interesting, because we canadians are quite divided on whether or not we are distinct or just a mini-america.

I'd assume because America has such a high profile that you are precieved much more distictly outside of North America. When the Europeans think of North America, they think of a friend and a shady ally. When North Americans think of North America, they think of America and its wholly-owned subsidiary to the north.

This is so perfect. Canada absolutely belongs at number two. It's like our favorite places to be.

ROFLMFAO...not to worry. You're number one (between us two), trust me. Been all over the place and my ratings are favoring you admirably.

Does anyone else find the current trend of understanding every possible aspect of human life in terms of marketability a tad disturbing?

I mean, I'm keenly interested in the way countries are perceived by outsiders, but not because I think we all really need to be making more money in tourism.

A European group rates this sort of thing but in much more meaningful and serious terms, like hours of quality family time per week. That's the one you should look into. Ireland got #1 place on earth this year.

The US was placed last for its heritage.

Obviously. We're still a wee, bitty baby compared to other countries. We have some history and heritage, but certainly not enough to compare to everyone else.

Our ranking does not shock me one bit, especially given the past few years.

But seriously folks ...you guys (as a modern Western country) are a good bit older than we are.

You have several hundred years of nationhood, and several more hundred years of European settlement leading up to that nationhood. We have a hundred-and-a-bit years of nationahood, and a hundred-and-a-bit more years of settlement leading up to that.

Which is to say, that ranking strikes me as a bit off.

i think that poll/rating system forgot one important concept: the country's growth/vision in terms of forward progression as a whole. i guess i might just be talking about china... if the US is shitting bricks every other week on what china's next move in every market, i think that that should have been mentioned. oh well. maybe next year.
on a happier note: #8 here i come!!! wink

I think at least the careful relocation of the apostrophe from "I'm" to "its" is sarcastic.

Also, in my experience, ten and a half months of winter, and deadly seriousness. Also, I knew someone who was reported to his employer (by the BAR STAFF) for going into a pub on a weeknight. Don't get me started. In fact, I'll stop now.
