The new Michael Bay movie The Island may face a federal injunction because of similarities to a lesser budgeted, lesser known (but not to MST3K fans) movie, Parts: The Clonus Horror.

"Clonus" director Robert S. Fiveson said Wednesday that he'd sneaked into a preview screening of "The Island" the previous night. "I went in hoping and praying that it was enough different than 'Clonus' so that I could just put my mind at rest and move on, but I can't. Because astonishingly enough, it not only seems to rest on the very skeleton of the film, ... there were enough (similarities) in the movie in the first third that I thought this cannot be happenstance or casual."

Although he's been talking with lawyers, Fiveson said he doesn't know what he wants from "The Island" filmmakers or its studio, DreamWorks. "I'm not in this to make money, frankly." However, he said, "I wouldn't mind if this thing went to a jury trial at all."

"It.....it hurts" said Michael Bay, after comparing himself to Kubrick and Spielberg, reports the Hollywood Reporter after news of THE ISLAND tanking. "It really hurts. And they always blame the director."

It seems to me to bear a striking resemblance to A Brave New World.

I thought it came really close to THX-1138. From an "action" movie perspective, anyway.

After seeing the preview, I kinda though all that running amok had something to do with LOGAN'S RUN.

I've seen Clonus and The Island definantly stole quite a bit from it. I wish Michael Bay would just die already.

"Michael Bay gets to keep making movies and Cartman gets his own theme park; there is no God."

Yes, I too have seen "Parts: the Clonus Horror." And yeah, it's pretty similar.

It is also really bad.

I saw this movie.

I've come to the realization that Michael Bay is good at flipping cars & that's about it.

Ok I'm prepared to be slammed; I thought it was ok, but then I'm pretty easily entertained, when it comes to movies! Yeah I'll admit it. I never saw this "Clonus" movie so I have no oppinion about it. This movie stole from many classics including Blade Runner, Dr. Tyrell: We began to notice a strange obsession... We gave them implants so that we could control them better... Deckard: memories, you're talking about memories. This scene was in The Island, seemingly verbatum. The white track suits from Logans Run. The mindless day to day life and questions about it's futility of THX-1138. I've seen worse. Johnny Pnemonic, anyone?

There are only 12 plots. When you're making a movie about humans harvesting organs there's only a few ways of doing it, and because Hollywood movies are so formulaic once you've got the initial idea it pretty much gets bolted down to the formula.

It's pretty hard for SF movies to have original ideas. They seem to be made by people who don't read, and who most certainly don't read SF.

UPDATE!!!!

"CLONUS" PRODUCERS FILE SUIT

On Monday, August 8, Robert S. Fiveson and Myrl A. Schreibman, producers of PARTS: THE CLONUS HORROR (seen in episode 811) filed suit in New York claiming DreamWorks and Warner Bros. cribbed their movie for The Island. In addition to unspecified financial compensation, Fiveson and Schreibman want The Island withdrawn from theaters and any further release barred, reports Daily Variety.

The copyright infringement suit lists 90 instances where the movies are identical. DreamWorks released a statement Tuesday saying, "'The Island' does not infringe on anyone's copyrights." Warner said it does not comment on pending litigation.

God, I hope that guy wins his lawsuit. I really, really want Michael Bay to be broke, homeless, and sucking tranny dick on the streets of East LA for crack money.

You hear me, Jesus?!

I thought so too! I will have to admit that I had a certain fondness for this movie . . . a fondness in the form of Scarlett. Consider me a fool if you will

The Island was probably the best Michael Bay movie , so it makes sense that it tanked at the box office
