Trying to get a sense on which mp3 players people are most comfortable with, whether flash based, small capacity, mini, etc. I own a Zen Touch, and the touch pad has gone shitcrazy on me, don't know who else has had this problem. I've considered an iriver.
I own a Creative Jukebox Zen Xtra... it is a quality piece of kit but a bit heavy. To which end I invested in the lighter and equally adequate 1GB Creative MuVo V200 flash based player.
No moving parts, cracking sound, built-in radio, voice recorder function, about the size of a disposable cigarette lighter. It's the nuts. Buy one.
The 20 GB Creative Nomad Jukebox I bought back in 2002 is still going strong, although I filled it up long ago with just a fraction of my collection.
I can't for the life of me imagine why someone would buy an iPod -- unless you know what you're doing, you're stuck with a proprietary format that costs a lot more money. Why are people buying them?

in what sense are you stuck with a proprietary format? yes, it's true, if you want to buy music from the apple music store you can only play it on your ipod (which by the way has a ton of the overall market share, so i strongly doubt they are going anywhere.) but if you buy music in the wmv format from a windows store like napster then you can only play it on windows. what happens if you decide to get a mac someday, or switch to linux or something?
also, the ipod plays mp3 files just fine. which, at least the last time i looked, are 90+% of all the music files anyone cares about. how is that a locked in proprietary format? download music from almost anywhere and it will probably be in mp3. rip your cds to mp3 and you can play them on anything you want. doesn't seem super proprietary to me.
I've only had and used one which is my 20G iPod. I like it just fine, but then again I don't really have anything to compare it with. I like the user interface on the iPod because you can create playlists on the go, which I find extremely important. I've had mine for almost a year I think and it's still good as new - so far as the click wheel and functionality goes. but like I said I don't have a lot to compare it to.

mmmmmmmmmmm shiny!!!!!!
got 3Gb left on mine (30G model) but nearly half my collection to go
I only ever listen to it on shuffle. It forces you to hear songs in a completely different way.

In this, I'm going to throw my weight behind the iAudio M3. I used to own an iRiver 20GB, but this is far and away better in my opinion.
Supports all the major formats (MP3, WMA, WAV, FLAC and OGG). 10% smaller than an iPod. Amazing EQ. Regularly updated firmware. Sick remote.
Seriously check it out. You won't be disappointed.
I totally agree. This was my MP3 player until I was burgled and it was nicked. It even came with a superb set of earphones which is unusual for MP3 players.
Now I have the Sony NW-E99 and its nowhere near as user friendly although the sound re-production is fairly good.
