This reminds me of when my late grandmother went on a rant about how she hates when people say, "Have a nice day" to her. "What if I don't want to have a nice day?" she said.
People actively look for things to be annoyed by, sometimes.

I say it, too. It's just polite. Yeesh, it seems it's becoming "cool" to be a rude asshole.
Next thing you know, holding the door open will offend somone.
My only problem with it is in the mornings I tend to sneeze over and over and over again, part of "the morning coughs and sneezes", and it can get annoying to hear "bless you" 50 times in the first hour you're awake.
