See, I thought it was a formulaic book with zero originality, and some really frustrating storytelling devices (retelling the same thing over and over again without revealling the part that's crucial to the plot even though at least one of the characters clearly *knows* that part, for example.), It's competently written, but that alone doesn't qualify it as worth attention. Themes like the ones in the Da Vinci Code have come up in far superior works like Foucault's Pendulum, and the Preacher series of comics. Only much better handled. Not thrillers, I grant you, but there're much better thrillers on the market also. Yet Da Vinci is the one that never lasts more than an hour on our library shelves. People.

Yeah, I don't think Dan Brown is quite up the level of people like Douglas Preston/Lincoln Child or older Michael Crighton as far as thrillers go.

And the Pope hates Harry Potter because the books promote evil.


Catholics are not good at separating fact and fiction. Not a dis, just an observation. Crackers=flesh; juice=blood(or, equally egregious, wine).

Symbols are a powerful part of religion, and while I might not agree, I don't fault countries for associating themselves with flags, either - in fact, I would consider it an underhanded thing to do. The real evils of religion (or nationalism, or anything else) are when they force their will upon people, not what they happen to refer to as the body/blood of Christ in ceremony.

It's going to suck when these chumps take a single college history class and realize that almost all of the Christian holidays are hijacked pagan holidays, half of the saints were "converted" Pagan leaders or even Pagan deities, and that Jesus himself is probably just an amalgamation of a thousand years of myth + cultural assimilation.

Plus, the whole thing with Jesus being black and rockin dreds and getting fucked up at the last supper.

Sounds like a “castle of lies” that “distorted” the truth to me.

I really really just want somebody to attack those fucking Left Behind books... or even Goosebumps. Let's go back and fuck with Goosebumps, we've got a lot of ground to cover! Kill the liars!

maybe they take the sotry so seriously because there is a large group of people out there who think that many of the Historical events actual happened...aside from the whole murder, clue leaving and stolen remains of mary magdalene (of course, most people, after brief investigation, agree that "Mary Magdalene" was not a real person, but an archetype developed from three seperate stories in the bible)

oh, god. left behind. i've never seen such crackpottery in my life as is in those books.

All this will die down just in time to resurface again when the movie is released...

I heard about these books and just did a quick scoot through Amazon looking at the write ups.

I think a parody called 'Really Left Behind' is in order in which God discriminates between people who consider themselves Christians and people who live by Christian values whether religious (of any denomination), just spiritual or athiest/humanist.

Then watch the ensuing antics as the deficient turn upon the remaining members of the orthodox church as the book of Revelation occurs in the background...

"Hey! What happened to my God-fearing Limo driver?"

"Where's the baby I chose to have bapitised?"
