You gotta make a living, but the sort of telemarketing where you call other people unsolicited in their homes is... barely better than spammers on the "scum of the Earth" scale. The only thing worse than unsolicited outbound telemarketers are the gullible bastards who buy their shit -- why??

I'm sure telemarketers have horror stories about rude people and how hard their job is, but they wouldn't have those stories if they didn't... call.. people... in... their... homes... unsolicited..

Yeah, seriously. We're made to keep asking even after the people say no. A lot of the time we get hung up on, but we're trained to be very polite so most people who do stay on the line are nice back to us. We're not selling anything per say, we're offering credit card-- which in all actuality is probably even more annoying than selling stuff, haha. At work, they say that as long as we've 'WOWd' the customer, then we're doing a good job.

I can't wait to get a new freaking job. :| stupid money.

Though I do want to give a tip to you all, haha. If you hang up on a telemarketer without saying anything, we're going to put you down as "NH" Not Home. That means we WILL call back the next day. If you say "No thanks" we're going to put you down as a refusal, and include you in our next list. If you really don't want the calls anymore you should request to be put on the specific telemarketer company's "Do Not Call List" (usually takes up to 30 days). It amazes me how many people just hang up, and I don't feel bad about calling back later because they never showed any initiative to be taken off our list, it isn't that hard.

It's also funny when people think that all telemarketers come from the same company. "You guys have been calling me all day!!!" Probably not true. We've probably called once in the morning and once at night, if that. Most likely we've only called once in any given day and will call again the next day. Not all telemarketers come from the same place. *grins*

Wow... talk talk talk. I'm really bored. -_-; Someone make someone else hire me! biggrin

Edit: The really sad part is that the card we're selling *IS* a really freaking good card. I wish I could get it. It makes me sort of motivated to try to convince the people that they want the card, because damn is it good. *flip flop, flip flop*

Bah to cussing out. The person you got obviously wasn't a good telemarketer, haha. The best part about being a telemarketer is you get to be SO amused by the joksters. I had this one guy who didn't want the card, but we had a pretty good conversation for about three minutes. Then he ended up asking me what I was wearing so I did a No Sale Close. He was a really neat guy~

Oh believe me, I do it all the time. I'm constantly hanging up on telemarketers who call my house-- but it's one of those facts of life things. People are going to call your house. People are going to call your house unsolicited to try to sell and or offer you things. It's been happening for a very long time. If you don't like it, even though they are invading YOUR phone, it's not hard to ask them to take you off the list-- I mean if you really wanted to be proactive about your privacy.

It happens!

Call me and try to sell me stuff, I won't mind as long as I know it's you. So now you have to ask everyone you call if they're Mhyque. I'm not saying I'll buy anything, but I won't toy with you for twenty minutes before abruptly hanging up, which is what I normally do. Or maybe I'll do that anyway, just for fun.

We don't get to pick who we call, if we did I'd be like OMGZ0RZ GIMME YUR NUMBAH, HO!

We're not SELLING anything. All we're doing is offering a card that you don't have to pay anything to have. I mean you could get the damned card and let it sit in your junk drawer for the rest of your life and you'd never have to pay a single cent to have it. @_@ mehhh.

I don't get why telemarketers ever call to offer me something I'd actually want, like a calzone. If you called me up and were like,

"Doesn't a calzone sound good right about now?"

I'd respond

"It does. Send one over!"

That's certainly one more sale than you could make from me offering typical telemarketer wares.

Except if I'm in Rhode Island and you're in Hawaii I don't think that calzone would be so good by the time it got there. XD

Are credit cards the main thing sold by telemarketers because plastic is so cheap?

(And you may be far away, but my pizza place would make a killing telemarketing to me.)

Wow, I haven't given a thought to telemarketers for years now -- ever since the DO NOT CALL registry.

But before that, I hated them (even though I was once a telephone market researcher for a while). That moment after work when you can just relax with a book or something eating dinner, away from billboards and all the other outside ads is sacred. And that phone call is just so intrusive. If I wanted to be sold something at that time, I could turn on the TV.

Sorry, nothing personal.

That's fucking retarded. I didn't ask to be on your lists, I didn't ask to be harassed at my home while I'm trying to spend what precious little time I get away from my job to enjoy my life... and you're amazed that I don't "show any initiative"?!?

How about you show some initiative and get a real job that doesn't involve annoying the shit out of people for bullshit pay?

Telemarketers are no better than panhandlers and deserve about as much of my respect and my time.

You're making unsolicited calls to people in their homes, and you're surprised that people just hang up? Dude, c'mon. I'm friendly enough to telemarketers (before I hang up) because I know it's a pretty shitty job, but you have to expect total rudeness; it's pretty justified.
