They shouldn't do anything anime.

Judging from the teaser poster on IMDB, it looks pretty cartoony as far as CGI goes.

That's pretty much the direction it's going in stylisticaly.
I think there are only a few pieces of artwork out there yet:

I wouldn't go so far as to say very cartoony. From what I know they do want it to be pretty dark and very action-oriented in an anime kind of way. However, it's not going to be straight up anime style. It's also really not going to be as Cartoony as their other stuff, mainly Father of the Pride and Cat Tale (no major artwork out yet but I've seen some and it's adorabely cute).
-Let's put it this way, how would you approach the 'cartoon style' dilemma when you're talking about making a movie with giant talking ninja mutant turtles standing on 2 legs like people.

Why the hell would they do it in CG? The costumes looked great in the first three, and it's been a decade and a half since then.

CG killed movies. Then it violated the corpse. Then it had the corpse bronzed, and applied a little plaque gloating about the whole thing.

I disagree.

Jurassic Park was fucking beautiful. It's a question of knowing your limitations with CGI. George Lucas, for example, does not know his limitations. I think, for example, CGI is going to be perfect for the new Transformers movie.

Wow...that picture is fucking awesome.

I want that poster. Now.

Edity: Seriously. If any of you work in a theater, and happen to have that as a double sided original poster, I'll work something out with you.

The first "album" I ever bought for myself was 1989's TMNT cash-in Coming Out of Our Shells, so me and the Ninja Turtles go way back.

Really I just wanted to say how funny it is that you mentioned this tape, since just last week I had someone over for a 'Coming Out of Our Shells' listening party, complete with red wine and discussion of the liner notes.

Maybe this says a lot about my life.

But still, why not try and make a cg movie about four Racoons instead?

YES! That was exactly what I thought when I read that post. Wow, you like SMB and you know of Racoons? Obviously we must become the best of friends at once. I'll ask my mom if we can have a sleep over, and maybe we can stay up until 11.00 watching videos. wink

Have you Seen the teaser trailer?
I saw some new footage today at the office, and I can truly say, as a fan of the Turtles from long ago, some of this stuff looks really really amazing. Some of the modeling and design in particular places is fantastic, there's really some nice lighting and camera stuff going on, and most importantly, the animation is outstanding in what I saw to be pretty final stuff.
The turtles are interstingly designed, different from the cartoon, more like the comic, but a little different because it has to be for 3D. One of the things I really like is that they manage to make each turtle look a little distinct in subtle ways besides just their bandanas, unlike the old series an even the comic sometimes. (admit it, keeping them all red like the original could get a little confusing when you've got them out doing separate stuff).
It is the intention to make a gritter, more anime-style movie, more like the original comic. They can't make it super-gritty because they need to keep it clean enough that kids CAN see it. You can't just throw out the money that kids bring to animated feature audiences. There will be some goofier stuff in there...think of it like that trailer...mostly dark and stylish and slick and serious, but Mikey still falls in the dumpster and you laugh. I mean c'mon, they're Ninja Turtles
I specifically worked on the casting, and I don't want to get in trouble for saying shit I shouldn't be while it's still officially in production, but I think I can give impressions.
-If you're a hardcore synical fan of the original comics, there may be stuff in there that you won't like, but I really think that all in all, most of you are really going to like the new TMNT.
