The first "album" I ever bought for myself was 1989's TMNT cash-in Coming Out of Our Shells, so me and the Ninja Turtles go way back. I watched the movies and the cartoons and played the video games. I had the action figures, the t-shirts, the pajamas, and the lunch-pail. Marketing: successful. But even a good franchise like the Turtles can be milked dry, and the well was nearly empty by the time their third live-action film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, debuted in 1993.

The Eastman & Laird-spawned franchise has kept a low profile since then, spawning one new animated series in 1997 and another in 2003, but plans are now being made to return the Turtles to the big screen. The film will be the first computer-animated TMNT vehicle, according to the press release:

The Weinstein Company and Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that they will join forces to distribute the first all-CG- animated movie in the long and phenomenally successful history of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. The announcement was made today by Jeff Robinov, President of Production, Warner Bros. Pictures, and Harvey Weinstein of The Weinstein Company. The as-yet-untitled picture will be released early in 2007.

The movie will be directed by Kevin Munroe from his own screenplay, developed in consultation with Turtles co-creator Peter Laird. The film will be produced by Thomas K. Gray and Galen Walker. The executive producers are Francis Kao, Peter Laird, Gary Richardson and Frederick U. Fierst. Worldwide merchandising rights for the movie will be exclusively represented by 4Kids Entertainment, Inc.

This movie has been whispered about for a long time. Even Eastman and Laird commented about it on their website. I remember at one point they said they were waiting for the new animated series to kick off...which was a couple years ago.

At any rate...Turtle Power! biggrin

The entire movie will be computer animated, it is not going to be a combination of CG and live action.

Not sure what I think about that...but, hey, we'll have to see.

These days liking pizza and skateboarding isn't enough to make you a teenager. Also, carrying weapons and not really using them isn't enough to make you a ninja. I'm hoping for an ill-advised walk into angst and violence.

Yeah and I hear there's talk of a Bill and Ted 3, too. Dear god, why are you trying to destroy my happy memories of 1989?

It's totally geeky, but I'd love to see a Ninja Turtles film based on the graphic comics. It would invariably be retardedly awesome.

In other news, the Ninja Turtles were at least 30% of my childhood, with DinoRiders taking up another 20%.

all cg... hmm... that will not end well. As far as I'm concerned, no one has done CG well enough to animate people, we just haven't had it around long enough to understand it yet.

Back to the story its not hard to find.. ninjas not just of the body but of the mind..

I really hope they use the old style turtles, before they went Xtreme to the maX hXc style with their razor scooters and crap. They just don't look the same, and my childhood screams out for vengeance.

HEY!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III was awesome (from what I remember).

However... I've always had a horrible distrust of CG based anything after thirty seconds of Max Steel.

The horror... the horror

Seriously, The Last Starfighter had better use of CG.

I could go for a really goofy, cartoony, stylish Ninja Turtles franchise. I imagine like six movies featuring the likes of Krang, the Mutaninmals, the Rat King, Baxter, etc.

With no celebrity voices.

they should have taken the turtles out behind the turtle van and shot them after TMNT II...I too hope the CGI isn't all extreme.

Do you like penicillin on your pizza?

I hear that they are the worlds most fearsome fighting team, that they are heroes in a half shell AND their green. And when the evil Shreader attacks, these turtle boys don't cut em no slack...

but that's just what I have heard.

Hmm... I would kinda rather see them in their fake puppet suits then all CG. I guess we shall have to wait and see.

The question I want answered is: but whatever happened to Super Mario Bros 2? Remember at the end of the movie, and the princess runs in and tells Mario and Luigi that there is trouble? But we never get to know the trouble.
(As far as I know, and I've asked a lot of people, I'm one of only two people who like the SMB movie. I also like Turtles III.)
