I've been waiting for this since Hunter passed on and it's good to see that it's going through. My only bitch is that the original plans for it being a public memorial service/event were canceled a few months back in favor of a private service. I can understand, but I was planning on going out to Woody Creek for the launch. I wanted to pay my respencts in person, but that'll have to wait. Although I'm guessing that since the monument is 150 feet tall, you could probably see it from the street, and definately be able to hear the cannon fire. Ah well, bravo Johnny, bravo.....
The cannon is to be set inside a 100 ft. tall stone version of the Gonzo fist, which is to then be set upon a 50 ft. pedestal.
Isn't it a 50 foot Gonzo fist on top of a 100 foot pedestal? Because the other way around would seem a bit top heavy, no?
it's most certainly possible that i have my numbers mixed up

i'd have to say that if they were truly following herr doktor's final - if subconscious - wishes, it would be to fire the cannon straight into to oval office, so that gwb could choke on the ashes.
i, for one, wouldn't be surprised if hunter took the results of the 2004 elections very seriously. other reasons existed, I'm sure, for the nature of his final exit, but hunter campaigned heavily for georgie boy's ouster, and his re-election must have seemed like the beginning of the end.
