How many of you know that Mel Brooks was a writer for Get Smart?

How many of you know that Mel Brooks, Neil Simon, Woody Allen and Carl Reiner were all writers for Sid Caesar's Your Show of Shows?

How many of you know that Richard Prior co-wrote the script for Blazing Saddles?

All of us now.

Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein. Spaceballs is a distant third for me, way too derivative, even if that was part of what's funny about it. High Anxiety probably ranks with or slightly ahead of Spaceballs, its at least derivative of cooler shit.
The original "Producers" is pretty good, if somewhat dated. I know nothing of the new one.

History of the world was very forgettable, Robin hood was pretty bad.

Put it in your Netflix queue right now, Tekky! If you love absurd, tasteless, non-PC humor, you will love 'Blazing Saddles'.

Anyhow, I'd have to say Blazing Saddles, followed by Young Frankenstein, followed by The Producers.

So you can sit there with a straight face and tell me "The Inquisition" isn't one of the funniest musical numbers ever filmed?

"The little faggot gets it!"
biggrin

"The Inquisition" is hilarious, but not nearly as funny as the all gay Busby Berkley-esque scene at the end of Blazing Saddles or "Springtime for Hitler" in the original 'Producers'.
#1 Blazing Saddles
#1a The Producers (the original)

I absolutely LOVE Robin Hood Men In Tights. I'm a sucker for cheesy running gags and physical comedy.

Asking "which Mel Brooks movie is the best?" is like asking which ocean is the wettest. You might ask which movie he wasted his time on; but even then your going to find that you've shocked someone. I was unable to sit all the way through "Silent Movie".

If I was asked which movie to recomend to someone that has never scene a Brooks film, I would prolly say "History ...."

I like your order. Frankly he has made so many great movies it is hard to pick just one. I also would ad History of the World Part 1

I didn't say it wasn't good, I said I was unable to sit though all of it. I only rented it once, maybe I'll give it another try soon.

I second that smile Great movie. It's not on DVD in North America, but I just scored an Australian copy off ebay for $10. Haven't seen it in years and I'm so looking forward to it! smile

Space Balls is another classic.... I've never seen Blazing Saddles... I should check it out.

Saying what is the "best" is always a matter of opinion. My favorites are Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, The Producers ("You're going to jump on me!) and High Anxiety.
