Another question: When did they forget physics in LOTR? Gimli is thrown against an orc and he doesn't bounce back or anything just gets up and starts flailing away. Physics say he should have bounced back a bit and fell down off the bridge. Nevermind the other glitches in the series.

And what's with all the racism in LOTR? They perpetuated the myth that Ents are lazy and talk funny when in fact they are a hardworking, loving creatures. Don't even get me started on the whole 'Orcs are evil' nonsense.

Back in April, didn't the staff try to gently suggest that we should not do stuff like this anymore?

I suggest SG institute a new free-rule in which people like me beat up the SG hall monitors and take their lunch money, and then make fun of them.

Back in Middle School didn't you learn not to be a narc? Plus, I was totally on topic, I answered the very serious and very very earthy question: AM I THE ONLY PERSON THAT DOESN'T LIKE LOTR?

By saying, all in all, I prefer Kip Winger. I answered the question and provided an alternative to other people who might also not like LOTR.

[Edited on Jul 06, 2005 by FridgeMagnet]

I only mentioned that because like six of the "Active Threads" were either about Kip Winger or had been hijacked by pictures of Kip Winger. If today is his birthday or something, I might take it all back.

It might be, but I'm not sure. I was just really finding the idea of Kip Winger funny this morning, posted his name in a few threads, and then started a Kip Winger thread on the Silliness board. But I think all the Kip stuff that wasn't in Silliness, was apropos of the topic at hand.

Do they have orcs on their team? I don't care really as long as someone takes a bat to that damn frodo's head.

i don't care for lotr either. it's a good story, i just wish someone with talent had penned it. a good author could probably have cut the length of the books in half and not lost anything from the story. then the movies. i liked the first one (even if it did copy the animated adaptation almost exactly; which is probably why i liked it), which got my hopes up that the story could be told without boring me to death. but then i watched the second one, and after that, i have not been able to bring myself to invest the time/money needed to watch the 3rd one.

Ugh. No Lord of the Rings for me. I was made to attend a showing of the second one in the theater and I wanted to fall asleep and/or leave the entire time... the only thing that made that three hours worthwhile was the nachos I ate... and we all know how bad movie theater nachos are.

It's not that I don't like nerdy things, because oh God, I do. I just can't get into Lord of the Rings.

Grr! I hate Lord of the Rings! I hate the crappy wizards and the dumb Americans and the dirty feet and the books and the everything!
Bluetrust and I watched the first film at home and halfway through we had sex because the movie was so bad we had to do something to keep our sanity.
I hate everything about the films and it blows my mind that they're so popular and well received.
I thought I was the only one.

i have read the books. but they just didnt interest me, they were okay i mean i read them with minimal struggle. but the movies did nothing for me. i dont nknow if its my attention span (well, i can sit through all of gone with the wind and ben hur so i dont think thats a factor) or if im just not interested.

i hate hate it, but i most certainly do not like it.

I intensely dislike Tolkein's writing style. He is a truly gifted linguist, but he sucks at writing an engaging story. I enjoyed the movies, largely because Liv Tyler is hot.

I hate lotr because it's 3 hour sittings of grown men crying. I hate the books because they were written during WW2 during the blitz and shit and when people state the obvious, that it's a sword and sorcery verision of WW2 Tolkien would say that the war had no influence on the books. My ass.
