Who hated Joel Schumacher's Mr. Freeze? Other than anyone who watched the character on Batman The Animated Series and/or watched Batman & Robin.

but he just looks so...happy.

I say jack nicholson play Joker like a giddy, giggly Psycho.... true thats one way to play it. But what we need is the persona Joker of the newest Cartoon, "The Batman" The new Joker just needs to be a Raving Fucking Lunatic with a hyperintelligent mind.

For that I Nominate:

Paul Bettany (green hair and a HUGE sneer, YES)
Jim Carrey on Speedballs (enough said)
Or
Edward Norton (based on his mirror rant in "25th Hour" I think he could pull it off)

Denis Leary was a consideration, except he's probably too busy on Rescue Me (I love that show!!)

Personally, I'd like a really talented unknown. Someone that doesn't automatically make me reference his entire career in my head as he delivers lines as the Joker, just to see if it's an original performance or recycled motions.

I've been saying the very same thing for months.

...and we were all wrong. Heath Ledger? Motherfucker can act, but he certainly wouldn't have been my first pick...

the reasoning behind it was that they wanted someone completely unassuming for the role. crispin glover, paul bettany, hugo weaving.. they were too "predictable." they think ledger will surprise and shock people.

anyways, they can soften the blow with phillip seymour hoffman as the penguin, as has been rumored.
