as little as possible.

not only does it make me feel really bad (damn notions of responsibility), but i can't really afford to not be working on certain days and lose a chunk of my paycheck.

maybe twice a year? seeing as I only work in the summer I guess that might be a lot...I do feel guilty when I do it though, mostly b/c when I do call off, it's for some bull shit reason..

Not often. I don't have the greatest work ethic in the world, but I feel bad calling in. I save it for only the most dire cases, where getting out of the bed at 6 in the morning is just impossible. And I can't really afford to take time off either. Someday, I will get paid sick days. But not now.

I've never called off from my full-time job. As for my part-time job, well…I don't really need to call off. I work whenever I want to.

every couple of months; whenever i have a week where i can spare a few bucks, i guess. i don't have any reason to feel bad, since my job isn't really the type where productivity is going to suffer due to a few people not being there.

huh.

i am so intrigued that people have never heard of the phrase 'called off.'

i've known in my entire life.

'i had to call off,' 'i called off yesterday,' yada yada yada.

maybe it's a pennsyvania-ish thing?

I used to pretend to be sick to get off work, but that's when I was in North Dakota, and living expenses were cheap.

Now I'm in Cali, and I go to work every day to see if I can make it through the day. fuck, I've worked there for a month, and had 3 days off. I had pink eye for 4 days and only took 2 of those days off, and then I had a sinus infection and my boss made me go home.

I could see the use of the term "called off" to refer to some preplanned event, but work is more of an every day occurrence.
