have you at least once gotten the fun of reversing the old "as long as you live under my roof, you'll obey my rules" line?

only to have my moms say " once you spend 11 hours pushin a 9 lb ham out of your ass, then you can tell me what to do." shocked

Why would your mom want to ruin a perfectly good ham like that?

I was out twice now I'm back again. Theoretically it was supposed to be until I "got back on my feet" but then I started having some severe health problems and lost my job a few months ago and now I'm sort of sitting around trying to find a new job so I can go to the doctors and find out what the hell is wrong with me.

i got sort of kicked out when i was 17. you see....i had a refinished basement at her house that had a kitchen and bathroom and she told me i could either pay rent and stay, or move out. and i sure as fuck wasnt paying her rent when i was still 17. so i lived with my friend for less than year, and then traveled off on for a few more years.

now i finally have my own apartment that is ALL mine. and my mom still calls me up and asks for money. gaaaah

i move back in, god about the same time i start this acount on SG, cuz i was just starting as a snowboard instructor and going back to school, and dropping a bunch of bad habbits in life, they where realy suportive of me reastablishing myself, and at this point we are all adults now, and we all live together like we are, my dad has been getting the basement finished off for free with my newer found trade skills. my mom has been getting the house decorated, because she has a complete lack of style. fuck the amout of labor i have put into this house within the past two months you swear i own it. they have been living vicarusly through me, and i am finally pushing them to go out and have fun again now that they don't have kids to worry about, they raised me sking so me being a snowboard instructor during the winter and riding eveyday is the family dream, for years they have pined about being skibums, and i am doing it. plus the cat would miss the shit out of me, and drive them nuts. i'm in a great position to buy my own house right now, but eh, i've got to much shit to finish up here, makes it a hell of alot easier to do it when i live here, i'm in no hurry right now, plus do you know how much lake front like this runs, shit, cuz i'm done with that apartment bullshit, fuck dat.

I've invited my parents to live with me. I'm buying a house where we'll all live, giving them the master bedroom downstairs since they are older/disabled, and hope to put the house in their name in the future so that it can be theirs.

I walked out of my parents house in november, and my fiance's parents let me stay with them until I was able to get my own flat. Even with money having been really tight sometimes, I wouldn't want things to be any other way. My only regret is that my tattoo artist is now a 3 hour trip away. I've been back to visit my parents a few times, and things are much better now because they've finally started to realize I'm an adult and treat me like one, but every time I go back, I don't feel like I'm 'going home'. My parents house hadn't 'felt like home' since the first time I met Emily's parents and they asked me to house-sit for them while they went on holiday for a week last august.

I joined the military at 17 primarily so I could get out of the house... also for work experience and so my parents wouldn't feel pressured to pay for my 'education.'

I love my mom and wouldn't mind living with her again, but I hate going home and seeing my friends who are "students" and seem to just be mooching off their parents while they work some menial job to pay for college, all the while bitching about how expensive it is.

Real life is expensive too. I would rather have money and job experience when I (eventually) go to college so I don't have to work at Denny's and squat in my
parents house.

However it would be fine with me if my mom wanted to move to Baltimore and live with me.. I plan to take care of her when she gets too old to live on her own. So at some point I will be living with my mom again, but the roles will be reversed.

I just graduated from university last year. I've recently started working for my native band, which pays well, but is only temporary contract work until the fall. As a result, I live with my Dad and my younger brother. I've been thinking of moving out, but I'm still working to save up some funds for the necessities. I own a vehicle, but it's not that great, so my Dad and I trade my truck for his car. My job's really travel-intensive, so it saves on gas big time.

I look at it fairly positively. My parents broke up when I was young, I lived with Mom and her new husband for a while, then she died and my brother and I moved in with my Dad. There's been a bit of catching up, and it felt like home more than the previous stuff ever did -- which helps, but it still doesn't seem to work well as an explanation to friends and associates of mine who seem to think that they can impose their ignorant worldview on how I live regardless of any actual details.

Yeah, I'm a bit bitter about this sort of topic. Too many people who only think in one way seem to irk me a bit too much for my health.

Yep. 23 years and counting. Almost moved out this summer but then the person I was going to live with lost her job and has had to move back in with her parents at the other end of the country.

I've never had a problem living at home, my parents respect my privacy and don't mind when I come and go. They've pretty much always treated me as an adult and these days its more like sharing the house with them then it is living in their house.

Doesn't help that if I wanted to live on my own I'd have to pay about 1/2 my take home pay on rent. Flat sharing is the only way to move out here and I'd have to find people I like as much as my parents before I'd do that.

Plus if I moved out my Dad would have to find someone else to go down the pub with. biggrin

I still live with the 'rents. It's not all bad. I can stay up as late as I want, I can go out anytime I please. Even though I'm 22, they still like to know where I'm going and with who. The least I can do is tell them to keep their peace of mind. The only thing I really can't do is watch TV in the living room because that's where my mom hangs out all day, but I have a TV of my own in my bedroom so I don't need the living room TV anyway. But, alas, I still wish for a place of my own...
