The thought of eating meat makes me want to hurl, but a new fad diet takes a nasty food and makes it nastier.

The "raw food revolution" believes ingredients such as beef, venison and fish should not be baked or boiled.

[...]

"A lot of people are a little bit intimidated about eating raw meat and fish, which is a great shame because I think they are really missing out," [Gordon Ramsay, posh chef] said. "It is a very healthy and natural way of doing things."

There's always some wingnut to support these stupid diets with stupid ideas.

Mr Loren has been conducting research into diabetes, which has increased by 70 per cent in Americans aged between 30 and 39 over the past ten years, and he believes that it is a problem that can be solved by diet. "The raw meat diet for humans can handle these problems," he says on his site.

I don't know if his "research" shows a 70% rise in the amount of cooked meat eaten by Americans aged between 30 and 39 over the past ten years.

There is, however, scientific advice that this diet might help you to lose a bit of weight. By giving you food poisoning and preventing you from eating for a few days.

Professor Hugh Pennington, the president of the Society for General Microbiology, [...] believes the new diet to be dangerous. "As someone who has spent a good deal of time in the last ten years trying to get across the message that by the application of common sense infections with bacteria like E coli 157 can be prevented, I cannot endorse raw meat," he said

Pussies.

Everyone knows the real benefits come from eating raw pork, and chicken.

Yummy gelatinous chicken goodness.

Remember to let it reach room temperature first, though!!I!.

I had seen a thing on Ripley's Believe It or Not! once that had a guy who ate rotten meat and spoiled eggs and shit, and swore it kept him healthy.

*shudder*

I have problems drinking skim milk a day past due.

Until youve had the joy of eating thin sliced japanese beef with a slight drizzle of chili oil, don't talk to me about how "horrible" raw meat is.

And if my steak isnt cold in the center, you've over cooked it.

Which book is it where they walk a living cow to the table, and then the cow asks them which bits they want to eat? I think it's one of the Douglas Adams books but i'm not sure.

I can understand not wanting to eat raw beef... but that's because it isn't fresh.

And what's wrong with sashimi? Raw fish keeps people skinny. Just look at Asia...

Ever try a raw food diet? Damn, it's amazing the way it makes you feel. But not as good as a burger tastes.

Raw fish, I can see...the other meats raw (which I believe is defined as not cooked over 120 degrees) is asking to have it come out both ends like Old Faithful, only more faithfully... puke

Thin slices of raw beef marinated in balsamic vinegar is an Italian delicacy is it not?

I'm not going to judge. Personally, I'm on the 'Sensible, Varied Diet for Non-Neurotics' and it is working wonders with me.

Just so you know, most people that talk about raw food diets do not actually eat raw meat. Most of them are actually vegan, and believe that it keeps your blood alkaline, gives you more energy, preserves vitamins and enzymes. smile

I think there is something ya'll aren't thinking about.

Why is the raw fish you get at a sushi restaurant so nummy and healthy and doesn't make you sick? Its high quality, clean meat. Its not from some factory farm that barely passes USDA standards.

Beef that is raised in the same quality conditions is no more dangerous.

Would I eat a cheap cut of raw beef? No, because I dont know how it was raised or slaughtered.

But natural, grass fed, kosher butchered sirloin? hell yes
