He had so much potential and skill. He could have been one of the greatest fighters ever, but instead squandered it all and self-destructed. Now he's just a walking punchline; hardly a fraction of his former self. I know you need the money, Mike, but it's time to hang it up. You can't even beat nobodies like Kevin McBride. Poor, crazy bastard.

I feel sorry for the guy because he was robbed blind by Don King who is one of the biggest crooks in America. But I don't really feel that bad for him. He doesn't come across as the nicest guy on the planet.

Yeah, in a way. He's not a bright guy, and he's been screwed every which way but loose by everyone who ever dealt with him. I remember when I was kid, and he was "Iron Mike" -- fucking indestructable, an animal. Like a superhero. Now he's just that psycho rapist ear-biter who talks funny and can't even win a fight.

Yeah, I heard a little while ago about the TKO. It is kind of sad.

I remember when he first came on the scene back in the mid '80s ... youngest heavyweight champ ever, king of the 39 second knockout. He was THE MAN!

Is it his fault? Is it Don King's fault?

Buster Douglas.
Robin Givens.
Desiree Washington.
Don King.
Evander Holyfield's ear.
Mitch "Blood" Green.

Too little Cus D'Amato. That's really what Mike Tyson needed. But people die.
He should have stayed at home with his tigers and pigeons.

This is one of the greatest quotes of all time:

Lennox Lewis, I'm coming for you man. My style is impetuous. My defense is impregnable, and I'm just ferocious. I want your heart. I want to eat his children. Praise be to Allah!

My best friend and I will still occasionally call each other just to say this to one another. Because, well, we're losers.

Exactly. It stems from a variety of things, but somewhere along the line he completely lost his mind.

Yep. He banked 5 million for the fight, but he's so far in debt he'll need to fight a few more times to get out. But who the hell is going to want to see that now?

I turned on ESPN radio to hear what was being said about this, and I caught Jeremy Shaap talking about this. And the way he explained it, it sounds like there was a series of seven fights to get him out of debt, and this was only going to be the second.

But given that he refused to get out of the corner when fighting a guy who was hand-picked to be a tomato can, I think this is it. But there was serious talk about Tyson getting a title shot if he won this fight and probably one more, so the heavyweight division is in such a state of absolute crap-titude that he might still get matches.

He's not technically allowed to hang it up, he's forced to work until he pays off his substantial debts.
