I'm lost
June 2005

There's new fiction on the web. Some of it has a kick to it. Here's a sampler platter.

"I was born in the mid-fifties with fists for hands, so Johnny went home and put a bullet in his head."

"Fists for Hands" by Suzanne Nielsen

"I was in Berlin walking across the Alexanderplatz, sober as a sad elephant, when I first heard the sound."

"From the Dispatches of Budd McAllen, Ethnomusicologist" by Brendan Kiley

"Draw me a doorway—"

"Pencil in the Obvious" by Amanda Auchter

"The boy’s cheek had been slit open to take a car’s exhaust pipe."

"I Wanna Hold Your Hand" by Warren Ellis

"Went to the little convenience store on the corner to buy a can of dog food for my dog, but bought instead a video cassette on what to do in case of death."

"Surviving Death" by Tom Whalen

"I have to dump this Sheila before she dumps me so I open the door to my Honda and get in, turn on the ignition and she taps the passenger side window and finally I hit the automatic unlock, as if she is an afterthought and when she gets in she isn’t angry at my lack of chivalry and my little plan is foiled because she was supposed to get pissy which would give me the ammo to dump her for being an irrational, fussy psycho bitch."

"Why I'll Always Wear Layers" by Caroline Kepnes

Just to clarify: this one's a poem (a Flash poem!)

"The boy’s cheek had been slit open to take a car’s exhaust pipe."

"I Wanna Hold Your Hand" by Warren Ellis

Dear god that one's disturbing.

I like that they're all short, digestible reads.
