There was an off and on rumor for a little while that you would be able to play old nintendo titles for free on the revolution... makes sense, Nintendo has a wealth of old cart-based games that still have retro-playability to them, why not hand them out for free piecemeal as an insentive to gamers.

Yeah, why? Satoru Itawa "man in the chair" at Nintendo has stated this isn't the case, though, possibly-maybe you could get (for example) a free Mario game with the purchase of a next-gen Mario Revolution title....

What a waste... wake up, Nintendo... if you only want to play to the Japanese market (DS is doing good in Japan, which makes a lot or no sense depending on your mood)... Even my dreamcast can play old Nintendo titles, everywhere people release 'Godmerged' packs of EVERY SINGLE snes/nes game available in both Japan & the US...

How long before someone simply throws an emulator on over to the Revolution? They can't think they can make money off the old titles, why not throw the casual gamer a bone or two for being such loyal cart-buying customers....?

I dont understand everything youre saying, but your name and your prof pic are really cool - and if I were in charge of nintendo, I would give a free subscription to penthouse with every purchase - that would work, wouldnt it?

Nintendo do seem to have marketting morons in charge.

and do appear to WANT to fail in the console market.

I give them another 5 years or so before they go the route of Sega and only produce software... their stance that they aren't going to compete in the race (as if it's just silly), with xbox 360 + ps3 is going to make Revolution fail outside of Japan...

It's not shocking that PSX isn't doing as brisk a business as DS, I mean, DS has tamogotchi comming for it, natch!? Sigh...

Since you didn't bother to supply a link here's one. And what does this have to do with having "less classic games"? Nowhere does he say that there will be less games availible, all he says is that they won't be availible for free. Why is this a bad thing? They are a business and need to make money in order to give you these games don't they? There will more then likely be a monthly fee for access to all the games, or a relatively minute fee per game. Why not wait till the pricing structure is actually announced before you start bitching about *gasp* needing to pay money for a product! eeek
whatever

I didn't provid a link because it was in Japanese.

Also, the whole point was that the rumor was the OLD games would be given away for free... most people see old titles like that as abandon-ware, even if they are built around Nintendos tried and true pantheon of characters that they re-hash over and over again, for the peanut crunching masses.

Did I say there would be less games available? I said that there wouldn't be any free classic games, games that are something like 15+ years old, that by all rights are dead as far as revenue goes...

Well that just goes to show that it doesn't really matter what "most people" see something as if the copyright holder is still making money off of the property does it? It sounds, again, like your bitching about having to pay for something that doesn't belong to you. whatever

Did I say there would be less games available?

Yes you did. In the title of this thread.

... games that are something like 15+ years old, that by all rights are dead as far as revenue goes...

How bout you leave it up to the copyright holder to decide when it is "dead as far as revenue goes"? I mean if they can sell it as a download, then apparently it's not dead, is it?

edit for clarity
