Gather 'round, emo children, because Steve Emond wants to celebrate you with his first comic series: Emo Boy, concerning the adolescent adventures of a boy who "uses his super-human sensitivity to sabotage his own happiness and his unpredictable emo powers to confound his enemies."

But don't think Emond is completely blind to the absurdities of emo:

"All I can say," Emond (who is currently contemplating whether he will barricade himself in his apartment to listen to the new Weezer album over and over) said about Emo Boy, "is that as much as it celebrates an emo kid, it sure makes fun of him for it just as much! I get to parody bands and shows, and I get to torture this poor little emo boy endlessly. And he does get tortured."

Which is just how his publisher, Slave Labor Graphics, wants it:

SLG's editor-in-chief Jennifer de Guzman (who actually really likes the new Bright Eyes album) said. "There's no way you can always be so earnest about misery, so why not turn someone's pain into fodder for ridicule? Steve has really hit on a goldmine for mockery material here. Mock mock mock. Mean mean mean. What's not to love?"

So what, exactly, are Emo Boy's super-powers? Emond answers this question in an interview with Broken Frontier:

The powers are emotional powers. There's no real limit to what he can do. When he feels larger than life, he might grow to be a giant, and when he's lonely and neglected he can turn invisible. When he's angry he can be very strong and when he's a nervous wreck he'll projectile vomit someone into a wall.

You can see a preview of Emo Boy here. Even subject matter aside, it has a unique and striking style.

It looks like every other comic that SLG puts out.

Y'know, I debated whether to put that line in, knowing some comic book fan would call me on it. I'm only speaking from my personal, somewhat limited experience. This is why I'm not the "Comic Editor". tongue This story just didn't fit in Music, I thought.

I find myself rather annoyed by the nonstandard text formatting. Does that make me a bad person? frown

Can I just say meh? Is that okay?

I think I'm going to say meh. If that gets me in trouble, then I'll just have to deal with that.

Alright, here it goes:

Meh.

I looked but I couldn't see the "unique and striking style" anywhere. Nor, for that matter, could I find anything clever or witty. This comic gets the rating of lame.

at least on my side, it had nothing to do with you. it was the comic that was lame, not your opinion.
someone that reads thousands of comics and someone that has read one- both are speaking for their own tastes and from their own experiance. you don't have to be an editor of any type to state your feelings...
