god knows we miss anne bancroft. who the fuck was she again?
Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate.
Anne Sullivan in The Miracle Worker.
Miss Havisham in Great Expectations.
Ms. Kendal in The Elephant Man.
A member of the congregation in her husband's film Blazing Saddles.
And etc, etc, etc. Who the fuck? Oh, nobody really...
well put. are any of those films less than 25 years old?
I liked you better when you were a lurker.
here here!!!
and...
Thank you Sir Hepburn for always having kool kat tastes!
Anyone who has not seen the Graduate
nor understands how that
masterpiece symbolized
the death of post war idealism,
the fallacy of a co-opted counter culture,
and the end of 50's/60's cinematic
"Love, American Style" -
better go and buy
yourself a copy at your local
Blockbuster!!!
and learn the truth, Ruth! "Would you like me to seduce you?"
I bet there's even an aging,
world weary
Benjamin/Elaine-type there
who owns the franchise!

The most recent movie of hers that I really liked, looking on her IMDB profile was Home for the Holidays. Pretty typical Thanksgiving movie, really, but has a lot of good performances in it.
Home for the Holidays was great. It even defied the fact of having Steve Guttenberg in it to be great.
(I have a soft spot for Thanksgiving movies. Planes, Trains, & Automobiles makes me misty-eyed.)
God, possibly the greatest movie ending ever. It wouldn't even have been as good if it had ended on the momentum. I love how it trails off into the silent hopeless awkwardness of "Now what?"
Gatsby, that was a lovely post. Awesome.
(Just as a side-note, I hope my sarcasm came across earlier. Obviously I think she was one hell of an amazing somebody, or I wouldn't have started a thread, but when the dude said "Well put," I started to worry.)

fuck you you fucking fuck.
there, thats a line from Snatch. now go fuck off and watch Blade 2 again.
did you just insult me with a line from a very recent movie and then tell me to go watch another very recent one in some condescending manner? I'm not sure I get you. and by the way great expectations was a fucking steaming horseshit of a movie. snatch wasn't though.
I think you missed the point. This is supposed to be an appreciation/rip thread. Maybe you should stay the fuck away since you obviously can't add anything nice, or appropriate for that matter.
omg, thank you guys for reminding me that she was in Elephant Man.....I love that movie, but haven't seen it in YEARS, and had forgotten that that part was played by her.
I was so sad to hear she died. I saw her a few years ago on a talk show on cable, and she was still so beautiful and funny and vibrant.

I adored her in Agnes of God. I don't know how many times I've watched that movie. This makes me sad.
Yes, that's one of my favorite films of hers too. She had something the interchangeable bimbos in movies today will never ever have: class. Peaceful rest, Anne.
Yes Mrs. Robinson i miss you already. I actually got to watch that in High School. All us guys were wishing that could happen to us! wow my dad was born in '31 too.
