If you're anything of a Monty Python fan, you have watched 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' numerous times. With that said, have any of you seen the adaptation of the movie 'Spamalot' (login:sgnews/sgnews)? I had not even heard of it, and I count myself among the ranks of Python adorers.
So it brings me even greater joy to say that this adaptation won top prize at the Tony Awards, taking home best musical.
"Spamalot," which opened in March to generally good reviews and torrid sales, won three Tonys in all, including one for Mike Nichols's direction, his sixth Tony as a director. Mr. Nichols practically apologized to fellow nominees for his victory. "I guess you're thinking, age before beauty," he said. "Me, too." Sara Ramirez, meanwhile, won best featured actress in a musical for her work as a buxom Lady of the Lake, a star-making turn that featured Ms. Ramirez stealing scenes from her male co-stars: Tim Curry, Hank Azaria and David Hyde Pierce.
With that interesting cast I definitely wish I could see it, but I doubt Ill get an opportunity to see it this time around. With that I must bid you all a fond, Ni!
A friend whose judgement is good recommended this highly after she saw it last week. It's been sold out a lot, though - hopefully they'll extend the run now that it has won awards.

I so much wanted to see this. I heard they had some actually play Sir Notappearinginthisfilm. And the rabbit was a football.
Yeah, when A Famous Historian is talking about the knights ("The dashingly handsome Sir Galahad, the homicidally brave Sir Lancelot, The not quite so brave as Sir Lancelot Sir Robin...") There's one extra, whi is identified as "The aptly named Sir Notappearinginthisshow", and he apologizes and runs off.
I saw the scene they did on the Tony's last night and it was awesome. I have been wanting to get to NY and this is a good enough excuse to start looking for good rates.
now all of you go away or I shall be forced to taunt you a second time!

Another great scene...
ALL- Run away! Run away!
ARTHUR- Run away from the stench in the trenches!
ALL- Run away! Run away!
BEDEVERE- From the horrible nasty old Frenches!
ROBIN- The frogs with their terrible prattle/are fighting a battle with cattle...
GALAHAD- We're all full of fear, so let's get out of here!
ALL- Run away, run away, run away!
FRENCHIES- You English all are bugger folk/Your mothers are all rugger folk/Your army is a bloody joke/You couldn't beat an artichoke/If battle you choose to renew/We'll taunt you 'till you all turn blue/We turn our asses as you part/In your direction we all fart!
If you can't tell, I really love this show. It's a perfect Python tribute and the cast is amazing. My only gripe is that the witch-burning scene is out, leaving Bedevere with pretty much nothing to do.

but if you show up at the theater at like 76am, you can get standing room tickets.
Is there some sort of quantum physics that makes this work?
Damn, I showed up at 87am, and they said the only tickets left were in an alternate theater.
I showed up at 32am, and they told me that the show had already happened, but if I'd kindly wait in the wormhole over there until 76am, I could pick some up for the previous night's show. That seemed like an awfully long wait, so I took off.
I'll be the odd one out then. I've heard snippets on the radio and this sounds like yet another Eric Idle Monty Python songs ripoff. There's something wrong about this. He just milks and milks and milks it.
Wrong. Bad. The Knights of Nee will be spinning in amongst their shrubberies!

Actually, the other Pythons love the show. Jones and Gilliam wanted to direct, and Cleese considered helping write it, but the show was pretty far along by then, and they decided it was Erics baby, and he should be allowed to finish it up on his own. John Cleese does do the voice of God, though.
